like I said before, get the Q6600.

thank me later.

edit: You asked last night which to get, I said get the q6600, that very night you bought the E6850 anyways? lol, did you already buy the damn thing before you posted this thread?

Yeah, price for performance points to the quad.

Well....it could if you have less amps of power than are being requested by the parts. But that wouldn't be the case for this guy.

Yep. That's what I meant, if the PSU is providing enough power for the parts upgrading it will not make the computer run faster.

I looked over those stats...When you overclock the heck out of them yes the QuadCore wins, however, I don't want to overclock, I just want stock speeds.

"However, those computer users who do not want to mess with processor overclocking may think differently. In this case Core 2 Duo E6850 with 25% higher clock speed performs better in a lot of applications, including games. Moreover, it is also more economical. As a result, the most optimal choice for a system working at nominal speeds would depends a lot on the type of tasks it is intended for. "

I guess if it's better for you then all is well

I got a damn B3 and it refuses to OC worth shit But if apps start using quad core in the future...I'm set

this might sound stupid, but whats a B3....And yes you can OC the quad core and what not and it'll be faster and it may be better in the future, but right now I just want f'ing blazing gaming fast, and be set for crysis which I am right now long as XFX doesn't give me a 6200 video card lol.

E6400 OC'd to 3ghz hits a 16493 on 3DMARK05
E6850 NO OC hits a 17586

I hit a 17500 or so OC'd to 3.5 GHZ on the e6400
I hit a 19093 OC'd e6850 to 3.6ghz

SO the e6850 is a proven winner and worth the money, YAYYYYY!!!!

If you wanted to run at stock speeds, why did you overclock it 600mhz?

plus do you play games? Crysis is coming and it uses all four cores of the quad.

The G0 has a lower consumption compared to the B3 version, the TDP going from 105 to 95 watts.
Which means, it will run cooler, overclock better, and with less volts.
B3/G0 are just the model numbers for the quad core processor. GBQ explained the differences above, and mine is not behaving nicely when I try to OC it

I oc'd it strickly for benchmarks, and downclocked it back to 3ghz.

Right now im playing BF 2142, and counterstrike source. Can't wait for crysis.

why do people keep saying the Q6600 is a quad core. Its not. Its a dual-die dual-core.

And price isn't a factor anymore. Both the E6850 and Q6600 are $300.

I'm so confused on his reason to upgrade from E6400.... its not gonna get much better unless youre doing extreme OCing like Hunt3r or Bril. And iM talking Phase Cooling...

The pentium D was a dual core processor, just 2 cores put onto a single chip...but that does not mean only a single core can be used. Apply the same theory to the Q6600.....

It's a quad core.
you realize its called the Q6600 Core 2 Quad... dual core quad that is

so 8 chips ?

omg no. theres a big difference between "core" and "die"

Man we get the fricken picture, we aren't got damn engineers. The point is that there are four cores in the processor, 2 physical chips.

'cause it sounds better, and Intel hardly wants people to be talking about how AMD's going to be the first one with an official quad-core (at least by the roadmaps)

Either way you look at it....it does have 4 cores, just they are no where near as efficient as they will be. Again, Dual core performance will run better on a Pentium D than on a Pentium 4, Now, does that mean it is equal to the X2 or C2D? No. However, it is better in applications that do use the technology.
