A75 MB or Battery problem

Thread Starter
Have unit that does not display battery lite in the "power, Hard Drive, battery" set on lites on the base edge. Battery just purchased but was used.

Software WIN XP states that the battery is not installed.

Battery does not appear to charge when using the power adapter.

Anyone have experience with a bad battery producing these symptoms?

These batteries have electronics board that insures none of the individual batteries is overcharged due to the hazard of this kind of battery. My though process says that not only do the batteries have to be dead the circuit board has to be dead to produce a not present status to the software.

I'm looking for a schematic of the A75 motherboard to help isolatate this issue.

Anyone know where to get schematics?

If the battery is lithium-ion, then there is a possibility that the battery protection circuitry has rendered the battery unusable. Most likely this is due to the battery cell voltage being too low to be recharged safely without the battery exploding in the process. The same circuitry also protects against overcharging. The explosion risk is really quite serious with lithium-ion and even if the individual cells are replaced the original protection circuit usually won't reset to allow the battery to be reused. So if anything happens to the battery to trigger the protection circuit, the battery is for all intents and purposes permanently dead.

You're most likely going to have to get another battery.

Sounds like a battery that's D.O.A. What model is your A75? I'm in desperate need of recovery/restore discs for a A75-S213. If you have the disc, please let me know, if I can have a copy.

Exactly, you see more dead ones coming off EBay that you see usable ones.
