PSU Question, and then some.

Hey guys, I have a question about my PSU.

I'm using a Thermaltake Toughpower 750 Watt PSU. I have an Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard, an E6600 Core 2 Duo CPU (not overclocked) and a EVGA 7950 GT KO video card.

I'm considering upgrading to a Q6600 Quad Core CPU, and a 8800 GTX video card, plus an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 HSF, this right here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835186134

My question is that will my PSU still be enough for those upgrades?

While I'm at it, I might as well ask a few more questions.

I hear great things about the Zalman fans, I'm of course looking for cool and quiet without the LEDs. While I'm using an Antec P180 case, I am considering getting a CoolerMaster Stacker 830 case, and I would rather not have visible LEDs through the "window." Is there a Zalman HSF that provides cooling and quiet without the LEDS? I was looking at this one right here.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118003

My other question involves the Stacker 830. Considering it's all just a big window on both sides, am I going to be bothered by fan noise? Before anyone asks, watercooling isn't for me...

Lastly, what's the best, quietest 120 mm fan on the market right now? My Antec uses the Tricool Fans, and they are pretty quiet, but if there are more (LED less) options, I'd be happy to hear them!

Thanks for your time.

Well that answered my PSU questions...

Thanks Rockin'.

Anyone have any other imput, HSF, etc?

your power supply is MORE then enough power for what your running...Unless you got qx6850 and dual 8800gtx's you'll be fine for a good while

What's your Heat Sink Fan Rockin?
I'm using a Gigabyte heatsink/fan with external fan speed control unit...It runs about 3400RPMS but its loud as all heck, about 40db....ASUS makes a nice one at frys, runs about 1300 Rpms and is very quiet, but you gotta remove motherboard to install it.

I usually idle about 36-38 degrees, sitting at 3.33GHZ, so very mild stupid overclock from 3ghz lol.

Re fans ... Yate Loons are good/quiet fans that come in several versions, depending on how much air you want to move.

For info on CPU Heat Sink/Fans ... try googling and you'll see a number of reviews where they compare the various options ... most of the moderately priced ones will give decent cooling - but noise ratings are just as important (im my book, anyway).

I have the Stacker 830 Evo, it's an amazing case I must say. Unfortunately I can't say if its quiet or not, with the mesh grills. I haven't started my build yet. But, I'm in love with the 830.

I would suggest staying away from zalman HSF's they aren't bad...but for the same price I would suggest the Thermalright 120 ultra extreme over absolutely everything. buy a 120mm fan to put onto it and there you go.

Same here man... same here.

So what's your HSF plans then? I'm wondering if a Thermalright 120 will fit in one of those... or in an Antec P180 either...

Yeah, pdonket, I was considering a TR 120. But I couldn't find any decent pictures on how it actually worked in-case. It looks like a huge hunk of metal with a fan blowing underneath it, but is it blowing the heat upward or downward?

In my Antec case, I have an air vent on the top that sucks out hot air because heat rises. It's directly over the processor. Problem is that CM's Stacker doesn't have that, at least directly over the CPU.

Yate Loon shazza? Time to do some more research.

Thanks guys, keep the opinions coming.

Just checked out Yate Loon, they don't seem too bad, but this fan here

beats it in both dBa and CFM. I was considering using this fan along with the Thermalright 120.

Lemme find a pic of the TR120E and I'll try to explain how it works

Alrighty

That is your TR120E, now the side we're looking at is one of the sides you can put a fan on. So, it has the metal cross bars (thin aluminum fins) that have narrow gaps in between, so when the 120mm fan is attached on that side lets say, you can have it pulling air from the side away from the HS, and then blowing it through the aluminum fins out the exhaust fan (which is perfectly lined up)

I'm going watercooling again so I can't help you there, but the Thermalright 120 will fit inside the 830 and you don't have to remove the Four Fan bracket from the side too, which is a plus.

I picked up the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119136 and was suprised that it had holes already for external watercooling. It ended up being the 830 EVO II. So I was pretty happy with it..

That's one beautiful case quad 120mm side fans would certainly do the job although I love my 250mm side fan of the TT armor. Really runs silently, it's the damn 80mm that just totally suck.
