Hi
I have a toshiba satelite M45-S2653 laptop its model no is PSM40U-11Z04H. Exsisting DVD burner is from Panasonic UJ-841. I tried to clean its lense with perfume and since then it is not working properly. I want to replace this drive. I tried to searh for this drive but unable to find it. Can any one pls tell me which other drives are compatible with it. I heard that Panasonic UJ-850 drive is compatible it. Is it true.

Pls help me.

Thanks
Pritam

the majority of laptop optical drives are compatible with one another. issue is to look at the cover plate for adaptation onto the housing. a perfect fit is always the same model as it orignally comes, other u might need some tweaking of the cover plate. best thing is to look at the front of the device and see if they match (eject button position ...)

cheers ...

One thing to remember, when replacing the optical drive. According to others on here who have done the same thing, apparently Toshiba optical drives are set to master. As you may or may not know, optical drives come in either Master, Cable select or slave. You must purchase your drive with the correct setting. It cannot be changed after. I have not used these guys yet but they come recommended. You are looking for the Toshiba ones with master at the end of the string

FWIW with some DIY work cable select drives can be changed to either forced master or slave mode by modding the interface connector--with the CSEL pin #47, either ground it to force master mode or insulate it to force slave mode. Definitely not a job for the novice but it's doable nonetheless.
