BSOD after upgrading i9400 to a NV7900gs - help plz

Hi all.

I upgraded my inspiron to a 7900 gs from x1400 a while back now (3months ago) and it has been running smoothly (games like quake 4/lotro at high graphics).

However, i have recently started playing Bioshock and after about 10 minutes of gameplay i got a blue screen of death with the following error:

Tried to write to read only memory (or something along those lines)

It specifies a NV4.dsp file

Was wondering if it is a driver problem or hardware?
(running bioshock on high settings by the way (1440x900 res) and when it does run it runs well - a very playable 30-60fps)

One thing to note is that i didnt format when upgrading the video card - could there be conflicting drivers?

My sys specs are as follows :

intel duo t2400 (1.83)

2gig 667 ram

nvidia (dual pipe) 7900 gs (running stock on Mobile Force drivers)

Did you uninstall the ATI drivers before installing the new card and its drivers? If not, you should do so.

reboot in safe-mode and do it.

Uninstall ATI, run driver cleaner.
reboot and now install nVidia drivers.

What driver are you using?

Are you having this problem in all your games or just Bioshock? I would bet it is bioshock giving your system problems. keep you eyes out for the first patch for the game

Im using Xtreme G mobile force vers 97.92 And in response to whether or not i have had this problem with other games i am pretty sure the answer is no. I have however had 'IRQL not less or equal' blue screen when i have turned my computer on every now and then. I just have to restart and works fine.

That's good to hear. Sometimes different drivers will cure a BSOD problem when gaming. Glad you got it figured out.
