im guessing an M1730 with a dual 8700 and t7600G will cost $4.2 thousand plus
when the dual 8800 becomes possible and the core 2 extreme im guessing $4.6 thousand plus

Well lets start with an average base unit price... The XPS m1710 is $2300.00.... so we will probably see the M1730 around that base price...

M1730 Base Price $2300.00
2 - 8800 SLI - $1000.00-$1200.00
Extreme C2duo - 1000.00
Blu Ray - $500.00ish

With those big parts in there total about........ $5k....... Dont forget about SSD, 4Gb RAM, and a nice 160GB 7200 HD....... hmmmm... Tough decisions coming up....

I hope dell uses dual 8800's....... dell.com/beast says a machine so powerful, gaming will have to evolve... well with 8700's....sorry dell but gaming evolved awhile ago...

I would say about 2.2k base

dual 8700GT will run ehh $850
Extreme will be $950
I dunno about blu-ray.

I hope its cheaper! Heck anything cheaper... I would think it would be atleast the same base price as the m1710...but who knows yet...

Does anyone have info on 2x8700 vs 1x8800 ?

It's actually quite easy to guess. I say $3,000. How do I arrive at my conclusion? Configure it to $3,000 as soon as it comes out :P.

3000.00 maybe close... Id have to figure in a med-range CPU...2.2-2.4 ghz (in the XPS scheme of things) , 120 GB 7200 RPM, 2 gb of ram.... With dual vids on top of that... that prob will push her over the 3000.00 limit... Im scared...

This laptop will be be pricey... im wondering is it getting close to the time of desktop gaming?

I'm not in any way plugging/advertising for Sager, but a NP9260 with SLI 7950s, 2.13 C2D, 1x 1GB RAM, 1680x1050 LCD, Vista Ultimate, 80 GB 5400 HD, 4965 AGN, Bluetooth and ExpressCard Remote costs less than $3000. You can upgrade the LCD, get 4 GB Ram and a 200 GB 7200 HD without pushing much past $3500. And it has LGA 775, so upgrading the CPU isn't nearly as pricey; room for RAID 0, 1 or 5 also.

You can also get the EUROCOM D900C, a similar and slightly more pricey lappie, with its option for 95W quad-core C2Ds.

To be honest, though, $3000 would build one heck of a desktop.

I would say it is cheaper, but Dell tends to overprice their XPS models upon release because it generally is unlocking a whole new generation of GPU's and CPU's (which this one is). I don't quite remember the old base price of the XPS 1710...but It's come down a couple hundred at least.

So I think I may actually be under-doing the base price. Maybe more like 2.4k

Yeah, but desktop CPUs are MUCH hotter than mobiles and use alot more battery time. The 1730 will have a WUXGA screen which the NP9260 does not have. Also, the GeForce 7950 has been out for a while. If Sager introduces one with GeForce 8 hardware it'll be considerably more expensive.

If and if... Dell offers 2 8800, im opting out and getting sli 8800's before I get the extreme C2D and ssd hard drives...

I wonder what frequency the ram is... I kinda hope 667 cause Ive got 2 gigs sitting on the shelf
post #13 of 29
It will at least be capable of 800mhz ram, as that is what the new processors FSB is
post #14 of 29
I would expect that the Ram for the M1730 will be 800Mhz as the new chipset supports it.

Take it easy Bud,

If it's not going to be her, there will be another.

The Odds are in our favor lol

$2300 base.

$5000-$6000 maxed with BluRay.
you know the X7900 is a $1,300 upgrade over the T7500, right?

I am going to guess a fully loaded machine, with 2GB of RAM instead of 4, standard 1 year warranty is going to pull around 6K with 8700SLi

...Add 4 year warranty/CC & 4GB and I imagine 7K after taxes..

Just take a look at the M6300 with a "turbocache" (lol) vid card...Now imagine upgrading to 8700 SLi+physics...
