E1705 CPU Overclocking

Thread Starter
I've had my E1705 for 4 months now, and I have unlocked my bios so that I can overclock my videocard. Now I want to see if I can overclock my CPU. It's a T7200, but unfortuanlly I can't find a thread on that any where.

You can't overclock it at all. First off the chipset only supports up to 667MHz FSB CPUs, which yours is already running at. Secondly, even if it were a 533MHz FSB, and pin-modded to 667MHz FSB, it would still lower your multi to its lowest point. On top of that, Dell has no overclocking options in their BIOS.

Thats what they said about overclocking the 7900GS GPU. The question is who is willing to spend the time (and money) to create an edited functional bios with the capabilities for overclocking the e1705?

the pll is locked.
the multipliers are locked.
it cannot be oc'd

end of story.

I dont know of any reputable member here that ever said anything about not being able to overclock the 7900. We have been overclocking since the 6800 series and w/o NiBiTor at that.

As Diefool has stated the pll is locked, a google search will find the pll number but this still won't help. If you are able to OC your CPU then you will be classified as a god on these forums - good luck

What if you change the pll with a non-locked one?

Motherboards are expensive. No one's going to throw around that much money in attempts to overclock the CPU in a last-gen laptop. IF it were possible to replace the pll without damaging the motherboard, and it still somehow worked, you'd still need someone experienced enough to mod the BIOS.

Anyone who needs performance this badly can either build a desktop or buy an M1710 with a 7600G.

Overclocking the E1705, or basically any current and future Dell laptops, is not going to happen. Get over it.

I don't see what the fascination is with overclocking the cpu is anyways. We can overclock our gpus, that's exactly what we need. Laptops are about portability (even desktop replacements) first and foremost. If you desperately need the performance gains from overclocking your cpu and ram and tightening ram timings and such, then you shouldn't be using a laptop to begin with. There's nothing wrong with trying to get the most performance you can out of what you buy, but there's a practical limit.

I completely understand your fascination with overclocking the CPU. Aside of all of this tech-talk, the overclock wouldn't give a whole lot of a performance gain even if it were possible.

Haha I'm still holding out for laptop manufacturers to start providing bioses like pcs once it gets mainstreamed enough that people want it. Better yet, scratch laptop mobo's and chasis to build our own laptops, with mxm video cards.

Did manage to overcome that issue though a lonnnnng ways back, but it was a friend and I ripping this thing apart and putting all the components onto a huge test motherboard at the university to get it to work, but that was years ago and it literally barely worked. But we could overclock a t7600!! Upon attempting to do the same to my laptop, it died quite quickly, and warranty parts were on the way.
So you can oc it, if you have a custom bios, easy to mod pll IC, and a chipset that can support past 667mhz.
