Currently I am planning to move out in the near future and I need to buy a laptop for my apartment. I have narrowed my search down to an apple macbook pro or a lenovo T61. I like the look of both, however for the almost the same specs I can buy the lenovo for around $1500, while the macbook pro would cost me around $2000. Is it worth that extra $500? I am a little weary of all these viruses and spy ware pop ups with windows. Is it true with apple they are cut to a minumum? In fact I hear there are no viruses at all as of yet. Just a little confused. I looked at sony, however all the reviews state that it comes with all this unnecessary software pre-installed. Lenovo has mixed reviews as well on cnet.com. Looking for some answers. Thanks.

I purchased this Nook Color specifically because I was taking a very long trip to China and wanted to be able to read without carrying a ton of books. I also liked that it had email capability...

Well, if you are a student, you can get the education discount which brings the price of the MBP down to $1799, so a little bit closer.
There are no known viruses in the wild for OS X. Furthermore, any known security exploits on OS X are for the most part, difficult to implement, at least to my understanding of the situation. You are obviously going to get more people recommending the MacBook Pro in this forum, and i do as well. And if you plan on gaming at all you should consider the MBP since it has the 8600M whereas the T61P has the Quadro 140M... roughly comparable for baisc tasks, but the 8600M is built for gaming, the Quadro is biult for CAD type work

Well...I am more of console gamer if at all anymore. I do not even play online games which seems to be the big thing nowadays. I like using a PC more for the usual stuff. Surfing the net, editing videos, pictures, and my main goal is downloading shows/movies. It is not crucial for me to play games, it would be a nice feature to have if need be. And you are right, more people recommend the MPB as opposed to anything else though. I was just trying to budget my money at this point thats all. But I would hands down get the Lenovo compared to just a regular Macbook any day.
Oh yea and I am not a student any more, so that savings cannot be counted in either.

On the note of pre-installed software... When I was with Windows machines I always recommend reformating just so all that preinstalled junk isn't there. Dell/Gateway are bad for that.
With my MacBook Pro I only had to delete a few applications and trials and I was good to go. However business oriented computer companies may be a little different.
Also if entertainment is your goal I would recommend the MBP as well as iTunes is already built in with a remote control. You can play music/DVD/tv shows from the MBP with iTunes and the DVD player and its all already setup and ready to go. I have watched a few podcasts through the iTunes player and the remote works beautifully and the full screen quality was awesome.
