I would go with a core 2 in exchange for a raid-10.

Drop the NIC. The performance increase that is potentially available is so small it's insane. There are a truckload of other factors that can affect your online gaming performance. Personally I would focus that cash on a better monitor.
The Physics card is also questionable. I looked extensively into getting one for the build in my sig, but decided against it. There were several reasons behind this. They include: 1st- This is a 1st gen card... I would wait to see what is down the road to see what happens before investing money in a technology that is still in it's infancy 2nd- Amount of games that actually use it to it's potential is currently lacking 3rd-A lot of the physics bugs have not been worked out & the actual physics in a lot of cases bring more "noise" into the game, not more detailed effects IMHO. Otherwise it's a pretty decent build. There are some things that I would change based on personal preference, but that it just it, personal preference. I think RAID 10 is a bit over the top. Performance wise for normal use striping has a limited benefit. Mirroring is nice if you are really concerned about data loss, but personally I jsut have a backup drive for archiving that I maintain a backup of my Windows install on. for further backup I also maintain a DL DVD collection. |
