Finally!

Hey everyone,

YAY! I am finally getting a MacBook this weekend but before I go I would like some questions answered by you guys.

I notice that there is 2.0 and 2.16 cpu speed. Is there a big difference between those two? Is the black macbook even worth it? the only difference i notice is the 160gb. My friend said to just get the lowest model and upgrade it urself? 40 more gb for $200?

What is the regular student discount for macbooks? on the site right now there is a sell for students. it brings the 2.0 down to 999.00. let say i wait until the sale is over, whats the student discount then?

I want to save as much money as i can so if there is not much or lil difference between the 2.0 and 2.16 then it will save me around $200.

I searched all over this site for this difference but came up empty handed so if there is a forum already please let me know. thanks you guys rock!

There is no really big difference in speed.

It would probably be cheaper to get the computer off Amazon than to use the student discount.

And the hard drive in the MacBook is very easy to replace so you can skimp on the drive and buy a new one for cheap later if you want.

yeh, depending on the specs of the external laptop drives by seagate or WD my next internal drive purchase will likely be an external setup. said drives have become pretty competitive w/ the barebone internal ones in price so why not get the enclosure in the price and just swap out the drives? the only issue that i can't seem to track down are the cache sizes on the external ones. if they're only 2MB versions instead of 8MB versions, that'd be the deal breaker for my storage plot.

He means to purchase an external 2.5 inch drive in a housing open it up and swap it for the one in the laptop and then you can also have an external backup or storage...

I really dont think that student discount of 999 will change. Even after the sale of the free iPod Nano that comes with it I think it'll still be at 999 dollars just without the iPod.

the best value for the price is the current academic Mac+iPod offering. You can also get a $100 printer after rebate. So basically that's basically $250 of stuff for free that you get beyond the $100 academic discount on the macbook ($200 off the MBP). If you have an iPod and printer, ebay them and your macbook will be even cheaper.

the offer ends today, Sunday, 9/16/07.
