Compaq V5000 Presario Touchpad Not working

G'day folks.

Compaq Presario V5000, touchpad tap not functioning. The scroll works fine, just the tap to click does not work as of 1 day.

Also, it has 3 volume controls at the top;

Decrease, Increase, Mute.

When I push the decrease, it is muting it and then un-muting it.

Noticed both problems yesterday. Machine is clean, and 1 year old.

uninstall, reinstall devices? drivers? when was the last time it worked?

It stopped working 2 days ago. I went to work and came back and it wasn't working, both the touchpad and the audio adjustment. I haven't tried your suggestion, will do today. Thanks.
