Bluetooth problems

Thread Starter
I reinstalled windows and now I don't know what's goin on with my bluetooth. Every so often I hear windows make a critical stop sound and I lose the use of my bluetooth keyboard and mouse and then I have to remove them from my bluetooth devices and add them back to get them to work. When I lose them the bluetooh icon goes from blue and green to blue and white.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the bluetooth drivers but it keeps happening randomly. Often when Im playing a game. Tried looking for an update but that didnt help.

Once I got an error message that the security code was incorrect and my bluetooth device would be disabled for 3 mins after which i was instructed to try reconnecting it.

Any idea what's going on?

PS: I'm considering formating and starting over from scratch just in case, how many times can i do that with XP before i have to call microsoft?

. bt driver/stack version?
. bt device(s) in question?
. windows version? updates?

"how many times can i do that with XP before i have to call microsoft?"
dont know, differs always with each "available" answer. it is a (tiny) pain to call in for activation when required, i do agree

Its the Dell wireless 355 module with bluetooth 2 + edr technology, driver version 5.0.1.2609 date 5/24/2006, bluetooth bus enumerator same version.

I let the system use automatic updates i forgot that when i did that the first time i got the machine the bluetooth stopped working because of the microsoft version of the driver.

take a look at ur restore point (if u have it activated). windows would automatically create a restore point before(automatic) updating

u might want to see if the option to turn off "input" device for saving power is on. this would cause the devices like external mouse/keyboard losing connection

firewall setting? bluetooth is being considered external signal

the automatic update took place just after the clean install and the m1710 is unable to restore to that date even though it was showing up.

i'll have to check out the power saving thing but I am running on battery when i lose BT

doubt it is the firewall, cause my config hasn't really changed and it worked well in the past

i lose it every so often (randomly) i dont really lose it if i am working or using the internet which requires light/medium use of the keyboard. but when i'm gaming, the keyboard is under heavy use and i use several keys on the num pad at the same time. that's when i lose it and then i am standing out in the open in ghost recon and im watching my character get gunned down.

are there any conflicts with bluetooth because of an XP/vista dual boot? I noticed that i can contro the os choice at boot with the BT KB sometimes and sometimes i have to use the laptop keyboard

it is precisely in this setting that the lalptop would poke around and turned off many things

never understand it myself, that dell would not install a full keyboard on this super model

i have the same issue with my usb kboard - i dual boot also. But I doubt that this has anything to do with it, since it does it also on my single xp machine, a quirk in the keyboard itself i believe, power signal high at start, warm up ...

ok, well my settings are set to high performance and i am running on ac power.

last night i left the laptop on and the keyboard as well. the kb was working fine, this morning it wasn't connected to the laptop. when i pressed a key on the kb the bt light on the kb didn't flash blue and the laptop didnt respond.the mouse didnt respond either. that was in xp, i rebooted into vista the mouse worked but the kb didnt, i had to remove the kb and add it back again, type in the new security code and now it's working.

i chatted with a dell technician online, they're sending a replacment kb and mouse.

i sure hope that works.

working in vista then bam lost the mouse, tried removing it then adding it back but that didn't work so i booted into xp to see if the problem is common, when i get into xp the mouse isn't working at first but after start up and everthing is loaded it starts to work for itself

at first i thought it was the drivers but then on both vista and xp? maybe it really is the hardware cause it works and then it stops and it seems to be random. and then why does it work and then stop? unless the driver is conflicting with some process/software? hardware?

dang bt kb has spoilt me i like sitting from 6-8 ft away and using the laptop

I had bluetooth issues for a while. Turns out is the LED lights on the xps. If I leave them at a solid color everything is fine. If I have them flashing or changing colors, anything except forstaying a solid color the Bluetooth Headphones will lose their connection. Weird

this happens whether my leds are on or off. If i'm using the internet or just typing it takes very long for me to lose the kb or mouse and if i do lose it, it will reconnect ofr itself. but if i am playing ghost recon i will lose it and it will not necessarily reconnect.

today i lost the kb but the mouse was still working so i tried connecting a usb kb that i have around and I got the notices you see attached in this post.

dell says my new kb and mouse a sveral days away still...

when i get that message i just remove the mouse and KB and pair them with the m1710 again. Would the logitech freedom joystick be a source of interference for BT? It uses 2.4GHz frequency.

A couple days after the problem settled out for a bit, wasn't getting any problems. Then I got the new kb and mouse last thrusday, still no problems. Now today back into GRAW2, lost it for a couple seconds then i got it back. when i exited GRAW2 i lost it and itunes started playing music .

I wish i'd never taken the bluetooth now. should have gotten a usb bt dongle or something. this is driving me crazy. the last thing you need is to lose control in the middle of your game (especially when you're out standing in the open in graw2).

If there is another wireless equipment using a frequency close to bluetooth equipment's use, the jamming may occure frequently.Changing the working frequiency of B.T may solve the problem.

how can the frequency be changed?
There is a small switch on the B.t indicating I-II selections, so you can select two different frequencies from both receiver and transmitter part of your B.T equipment. If you having trouble on one, than try the other freq.

But remember change both of it.If it works,no problem. If not try a different model B.T equipment from one of your friend to see if the same problem still standing.
