University Lan?

I was just wondering, i have an extra one of these http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...2210&CatId=372 access points lying around.

I'm off to university next year and I was wondering if it would be possible/logical to take this extra access point with me and plug it into my dorm room ethernet plug. Then I wouldn't have to plug my computer in on the desk when i brought it in everytime (very lazy but convenient i know).

So my question is is that with a university Lan could I just plug this in and would it be recognized as a regular access point or do I have to worry about university firewalls ect.?

thanks,

Chances are it will work just fine. A couple people have done so at my university with no technical trouble. However, you may want to talk with a network admin at the university to see if it is allowed. They may not allow you to do so for security reasons.

You should be fine, the fire wall won't affect you connecting to your Access Point.
