Thread Starter
I just bought my first notebook and vista has a bunch of crap on it that it doesn't look like i need, I was wondering if anyone has deleted most of the stuff off of it and what they deleted. I'm also trying to get the RAM usage down two, i'm upgrading to 2 gigs but for now i've only got 1 gig.

Anyone have any suggestions

buy a speedy SD cart (min. X150) and at least the same capacity as your system and use it in Vista's Ready Boost option continously.

Also adjust amaount of Cpu usage in both battery and A.C mode from power management console.Vista's default is very low.I made them 100% in A.C and 80% in battery.Defaults are 60% in both mode.Increasing the rate of Cpu usage cause higher power consumption, but if you need higher speed, it should be done...

vista itself? j/k

by bunch of crap do you mean softwares that are pre-installed by whoever you bought it from? if you dont need them, uninstall / delete them. better yet do a fresh Windows install.

The link denb45 gave is a good place to start, many useful tips.

I dont recall having to actively remove certain Vista features in the first place myself, if there's something annoy you, remove them as you play along.

There are a lot of games that you can get rid of and save space. You can uninstall the whole game file or each individual game. I kept solitaire, freecell, and mah jong and dumped the rest. Most if not all of the others are promos to get you to buy the game at $20.00 each.

I also got rid of the promo Offiice 2007 because it is too confusing to use for me. I loaded Office 2003 from my old computer and like it better.
