the ol' NP5720 ... NOW..the problems are showing.

I have been having this computer for 2 years+ now, until today, i realise that in the bios it detects the drive as UDMA mode 5 and in Windows xp/vista ult both detects the drive in UDMA mode 5. I used HDTune to benchmark my drive ..results wasnt impressive and definitly wasnt as close to my sata150 on my desktop.
So i'm just wondering if all the owners out there simply dont care if they are losing about 50% performance on their drive? Coz i have checked htis online over and over again and yet i dont see anyone complaining about this issue.. WHICH i brought this issue up to Sager, i was on the phone with them for a while, did a few check and the customer rep was just like "errr, i dont know man, it just comes like that and i dont have an answer for you, as long as it works its fine".
So... are we(np5720) owners just getting jibbed or what?

About the sund issues u guys are having, shutting off the irda reduces the problem but does not fix it. it will NEVER get fixed coz it has got nothing to do with the soundcard. Some electripcal parts in the notebook is leaking current not earthed properly so you're getting a surge... SOUND ISSUE IS NOT 100% FIXABLE

----------------

It is impossible to locate drivers for this notebook with VISTA ULT, espicially he BISON CAM (built in cam) the default drivers from Vista does not wwork! ALL the drivers and help provided online either directs you to MSI website which is impossible to find the driver OR a Acer driver which does not work.

----------------

CD/DVD drive has the weirdest symptom, u can write DVD ..but u cant read, well if u reboot u will be able to read it ONCE and that's it, unless if u reboot again then u can reaad it again ONCE until u eject it....i have tried all sorts of media from 50cents a piece to 5 bucks a piece, i have enough coasters to build a roller coaster.

conclusion after using the np5720 for 2 years.. the momment u buy your notebook, you're on your own.. no one cares.. these oem manufacturers just want to make the sales. Yes they do provide you with drivers BUT if u go to the sager/clevo site, you'll get drivers back in 2005..

So, is it worth paying a little more for Dell/HP/Toshiba/Sony/Asus??...

Well I had absolutely everything working under Vista Ultimate. The Bisoncam if you use the windows feature to have it look for it online it finds the correct one.

no doubt it works, but...the drivers are REally hard to come by as you would have notice.. i've got everything work on mine too except for the BIson cam, if you search it online now, i dont htink u will find a workable driver, it'll be great if u have a copy of the bison cam driver.... Also, do you realise the UDMA5 and SATA issue?

Vista will search and the update comes through the Windows update. Also just use the Vista Driver from Sagers Website for the 5760 it is the same platform.

I suggest you try the tech support folks at powernotebooks.com to see if they can help you (maybe for a fee, if you did not purchase your Sager through them). They've always tried to be helpful to me with my trials and tribulations with my Sager 5320C... -- ebskolnick

alright, i might give it a shot or i was just thinking i would just forget about it since my new notebook just arrived.

core 2 duo 2.4 santa rosa
4g ram
8600gt512 ddr3
200gb sata300
64bit vista...

after all that upgrades, u know what, if you're not really into gaming or using any high resources softwares like after effects or any 3dsoftwares... there's no point upgrading . softwares like photoshop and illustrator works just about as fast as the 5720. One thing significantly improved was if you are running 2 programs at once.. it is alot quicker and faster thanks to the core 2 duo.. but even so.... its not really worth the money.

so as for now, my np5720 just sits there as a media center. a little too powerful for media center but oh well..

but hey..thanks for the tip tho guys ..appreciate u taking ur time.

later.
