Bioshock on Sager NP5790

Just a quick call-out to see if anyone has had any luck playing Bioshock on the Sager NP5790. I can only get it to play in DX9 mode, and even then can only play the very first level. Every time I try to save, it hangs. Every time it tries to load the second level (medical labs) it hangs. There are odd graphical issues also.

I can't find any official updated drivers or any advice that really helps: even turning off High Detail Shaders doesn't do much good. I've installed all the latest Vista hotfixes.

System specs in the sig.

Any help greatly appreciated.

When you say "hangs", what do you mean? Because Bioshock does have ridiculous load times between levels.

It just freezes when I get to the door and stays showing exactly the same screen. I'm not sure if a loading screen is supposed to come up, but if it is, it doesn't. I think the longest I've left it for is about half an hour...

Okay, right then. A loading screen would come up, and say "Loading Insert Area Here" and show some random pics of the aread, and a quote would come up on the bottom and change.

I'm not running it on a laptop, however my advice is to uninstall/reinstall and see if that doesn't help things.

How's the first level play? Is it pretty smooth? I really don't think it's the drivers if that's the case, or any hotfixes for Vista, but I myself am running it on XP.

I will try a reinstall, but don't have high hopes. The first level runs absolutely fine - I haven't had any crashes since running it under DX 9 mode - except for the fact that certain textures (like in the bathroom with the Ghost in the first area) don't seem to load correctly.

For example, sometimes the enemy models will have full 360-style textures on them, and sometimes they won't - I can't seem to make it consistent so I don't know why that might be.

I think it's your 64-bit, try installing 32-bit, it will only recognize 3225MB of your 4GB (4096 MB) but bioshock might run
