What "socket" cpu for a P15-S409

I have searched these forms extensively and cannot find the answer to this question. What CPU can I put in my P15-S409? I have read I cannot go larger then a P4 3.2, however, what socket would I use? 478?

Thanks,
Matt

Thanks!! I ordered a P4 3.0ghz 800FSB 1MB Cache socket 478 today, brand new 80 bucks. I'll post back to let others know if it's a worthwhile upgrade. -M

faster cpu would not help much if u have low ram (under 1gb for windows) and/or a slow hard drive (4200rpm)

make sure that a good new thermal paste is used with the new cpu

Thanks! I also purchased 2GB of the fastest ram it can handle and am trying to decide between a 100GB 7200 or a 160GB 5400. Right now it has a 60GB 4200 so either would still be an upgrade. I have read everything I could google on the debate between notebooks with 5400 or 7200. Still can't decide. -M

more storage, a bit quieter than the 7200

bottom line: speed necessity + storage capacity + noise level + $$$$$

Excuse my stupidity, but I'm not sure where to look. I am here but don't see anything... http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...ceghdgngdgnj.0

well, i did not see any bios updates offering, so i guess u can safely go up 2.8 for this model then (normal upgrade calculation - mine)

I installed the new processor and turned the computer on and just a black screen, no boot. Got any ideas? It's a P4 3.0GHZ 1MB FSB and of course the P15-S409.

Thanks!

By the way both my ram sticks from crucial were bad, from a bad batch (same batch number). So they are sending me more. And i got my 7200rpm Hitachi in today so I will be installing that too. I just wanted to get the processor installed to see what sort of difference it actually makes.

unless something new about the bios occurs, this means that the cpu in question is not being supported

personally, unless the cpu is 3 steps up than the current one, ur 7200rpm drive will make a better impact in performance

cheers ...

Thanks. I think I might try to get a refund for the processor from new egg.
