Inspiron 9300 to TV

Hi,

What exactly do I need to connect my Dell i9300 laptop to a regular tv? (not HD) I searched a bit but couldn't seem to narrow it down. I know I need a cable, but am not sure of the part number, and software if any. I want to be able to display what's on the screen onto a TV.

it comes with an adapter, just hook it up with a reghular yellow video cable.

Or if you don't want to use the adapter, just plug an svideo cable into the back, and the other end into the tv.

You can use a male to male s-video cable I believe or you can get the adpater.

You would want the composite adaptor. With it, you can use male to male s-video or male to male yellow RCA. It also allows you to use S/PDIF for sound if your tv allows (I doubt it does).

The 9300 has a real digital out?

Yeah.

And I forgot the s-video port was seven pin, I suppose allowing for the breakout box with component/spdif/composite. So male to male s-video without the adapter will not work unless there are some male to male s-video wires with 4 pin on one side and seven pin on the other. I've never seen one but I have seen 7 pin to RCA here.

Personally, for sound I used headphone to RCA because I am not an audiophile and have S/PDIF only on my apartment tv and not my home tv or stereo.

So just a normal svideo cable, run the tv on one of the inputs and it will play, but sound will be through the laptop? Not too worried about that, I have a sound card and could always run something for sound.

I'll mess around a bit, I don't know why I didn't do this a long time ago. Thanks for the help

This is more for an HDTV, but the DVI out connects (sometimes with a DVI-to-HDMI adapter) to sets. This is definitely digital. And this was how I hooked up to my rear projector HDTV.

I thought he was regarding audio when he asked that question, not video.

Ya, I was. The headphone out on the 9300 is garbage, lots of hissing and hte SQ is horrible. I have been looking at getting an external DAC to use with my headphones and so far I have only been looking at USB ones. Being able to use spdif out expands my choices a bit.

I only get significant hissing with certain headphones (my better pair).

I have a M1710 now but I have a XPS2 as well and it was the same way.

I have an Audigy 2z5, it sounds a LOT better than dell's jack. There are cables that came with it, looks like it can be connected to surround sound easily or something.

I'm going to just order this. It's made for this laptop so should work:
S-Video Cable for Dell Inspiron 9300/ 6000/ 600m/ XPS Notebooks
Dell Part# 310-3770
