Toshiba A200-12X with cardreader messed up - Page 2

EDIT: The downloaded manual, or the one that comes on the computer's desktop is more complete than the one in the book and this one mentions that the Memory Stick Duo cards can't be inserted and that they're not compatible, since they could lose data.

And that's the one I have inside due to the same logo

Hi, yes, I sent them a mail saying that I read the written manual, since that's the one that everybody would read at all... and also you know that Memory Stick and MS Duos have same logos, The card I inserted is a MS Pro Duo card:

And the ones that the computer allows are:

The manual is the user manual, not service manual, I guess it will take some time for the service manual to be published somewhere

Here is the complete user manual:

I'm really thankful about all the help you're giving me

the logo can be very deceiving. both formats r totally different
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_Stick

let me dig up some mobo pic with the sd card slot and come back to u

cheers ...

on my machine, the card reader/pcmcia slot is one board onto itself and is not part of the mobo. The challenge is always finding the part and is not so easy to do.

wait around long enough someone will sell a used comp that u can pick apart. or just use an external

Yes, I read that too, when I was comparing with the manual.

I never worked much with cards, only the most common ones, the reason I have a Duo one is because of the PSP, because I won it on a contest time ago and a SD card because of a camera a friend lend me.

Since I saw same logos I sticked it in

Just some time ago I read the same article you sent me, I found out that Duo ones are the small ones while the ones without the "Duo" word on it are the big ones and can be inserted. And as far as I read in the "complete" manual, you can't use Duo/Pro Duo cards with a memory stick adapter, it is not compatible either, the manual says it could delete the information on the card or damage the data.
I tried looking for the computer model on the net, but I didn't find much, I don't work much with laptops, but a lot with desktop computers

Thanks again really

Hmm, I wonder if this computer is like that too, but no idea, since I can't open it yet.. I wish I could find a photo of the board of this model.

Look wehat I found:

I even found a USB connector board, also the camera board, modem board, that makes me think...

if the USB board is available as a spare part, is very strange that PCMCIA and card reader are part of the motherboard too..

I found a card reader in this web page: http://www.notebooksolutions.ca/zc/i...roducts_id=615

It's from Acer, but it's very weird, because it's placement of the things it's like mine, I mean, it has the audio jacks next to it, exactly like my computer...

Maybe other computers are like that, no idea..
like i said, it is a board of itself on my comp. i tend to believe urs is the same, just a matter of finding the part. why dont u send a mail to the links above and ask if they have one for ur system?

cheers ...

It's what I'm doing now, I guess Taisol is the one who develops them, I also found Taisol www.taisol.com and they make card reader modules. I wonder if they may work with Toshiba, Acer or probably other brands, I'm contacting them right now.

Thanks, I'll keep you updated.

Hi, Taisol hasn't repliedy et, maybe because of being Saturday, and Toshiba didn't either, maybe cuz of the same reason.
My sister found insurances for this device, it says accidental damage it's covered. I dunno much about this, but on Monday I'll try to ask for more information. Since it could be useful, I would get a one year insurance, plus, repair this problem. So it's like killing 2 birds with the same stone.

Yet I have to find out how this works.
I beleive the accidental insurance coverage, must be purchased within the first month of ownership of the laptop. That has always been the policy with Toshiba unless something has changed very recently

It was bought on 6th this month

Nothing, obviously they won't cover any damage previous to making the insurance.
Prfff...
I guess they would notice, but sometimes insurances too much bla bla and then don't cover anything.

Ok I managed to extract the card I also tried to separate the pins so it wouldn't make short, since when they got in short, the USB and Audio would stop working (maybe that could be the solution to a person who posted about having a trouble like that)
The card reader is still broken but I don't mind, I was testing the computer, did a memtest and a hard disk test, but yesterday I decided to do a test with HotCpu Pro, and on the processor tests, my screen was going black and showing the message: "Diplay driver has stopped working but has restored succesfully"
And besides that, it reports an error in the HD, I did a complete rinstall, it didn't seem to fix.
I will ask on HotCpu forums

Anyways, for now it just failed on the tests, but for now I haven't noticed any failure when using it..
