I am new here and in need of help.

I am looking at my grandaughter's Acer 3680 which is less than a year old. It runs WinXP with a Celeron 420 @ 1.6 GHz. It carries 512Mb od DDR RAM which I guess is shared with the onboard video.

Notwithstanding malaware and other troublesome programs slowing the thing down, there appears to be a configuration issue that could be the problem. I note that both the HDD and CD-RW are running in PIO mode. I have attempted to change to DMA but windows will not accept the change. Can you help here??

Further, I have considered a clean install of XP. I have attempted to change the BIOS boot sequence from HDD to CD-ROM. It instructs me to use the -/+ keys to move a selected device up/down the order. However, when using these keys one gets an error beep. Strange buisness this? Can you help?

Thank you.
