Laptop Died. Couple of Laptop Questions

My laptop just turned off without warning on monday and I cannot get it to turn on again. The laptop has a new battery, ram and HD. When I plug in the power adapter, the lights dont even turn on. The one that tells you the battery is being charged.
Does anyone know what happened?
I was thinking motherboard maybe, but would that affect the battery being charged?

My next question is what is a really good deal on a laptop right now in the $8-1200max with warranty range?
I might get another dell if I cannot fix the one I currently have, but I would like to know what other good deals are out there.
Also, this is not something that can wait until black friday, since I need a working computer asap for school.

btw, this is a dell inspiron 5100
Thanks

Your laptop needs soldering. The chassis/motherboard design has a serious flaw. It affects the 1100/1150/5100/5150 Inspiron models. But only the 5150 got a class action lawsuit.

My brother's 1150 died the same way. We just bought a new laptop and we are going to sell the old parts off ebay.

what do you mean by soldering?

There is a design flaw on the design of the motherboard.

Soldering means reconnecting a IC to the PCB.

So its repairble by doing this?
If so, can you tell me where I can get a new IC to the PCB?
Is there a DIY write-up?
I tried to google it, but I couldnt find anything. I am also unfamiliar with what a IC to PCB is, so any additional info would be great.
Thanks.

if you don't know what he's talking about, you don't have the equipment or experience necessary to perform the operation...
