Just got presario c500, help with ram

so i just got a compaq c500, it came with 1 gig of ram, and the 1.72 ghz processor, and 80gb hdd. im looking to get another gig of ram, but i took the memory cover off the bottom, and there's 2 chips under there, so that must mean that each is 512, so in order to get to my desired 2 gigs, i would need to buy 2 1 gigs, which is 200 dollars off the hp.shop site. correct? is there anywhere to get it cheaper?
