R40 Fan/Cooling Question

Just got me a sweet deal on an old R40, and I must say this is a great little laptop for what I'm doing. Only nag is the fan. Is there anyway to control this fan with a program or perhaps alter the settings so it runs ALL THE TIME rather than when it wants to? I mostly sit at a flat surface running Sketchup and Autocad and the case does get quite warm. I'm running it off of the AC adapter so power draw is not an issue.

Have you tried looking at laptop coolers?

Yes I have. Problem is due to health problems I can't drive so I have to lug my laptop by bicycle or bus. Anything that adds weight to my load better serve more than one function.

One trick a coworker showed me today involved cutting a sheet of aluminum and placing it under the laptop. That seems to draw some of the heat away and it's thin enough to fit in my pack without adding a bunch of weight.

But hey, after clicking your link I might buy a battery from ya.

Lifting the laptop a few inches off the surface may also help. Although the aluminum idea is quite ingenious..

Looking forward to that order, let me know if you have any questions.

I use a triangular architectural scale, of all things, to prop up the rear of the laptop's case for improved cooling. Since I do CAD I always have a scale laying around and even keep one in my laptop bag for when I'm out and about.
