i9300, 50-60c temp...

Recently my Inspiron 9300 has been "idling" at 40-50 degrees celcius. Not sure if it's the warm weather or what, but even when it was in an ac'd room and also in the 50's outside, it was the same. It froze in a game and wouldn't boot back up normally until it cooled down.

I ran a full system check with dell, all fans spin properly, and no other problems came up. Anyone have any ideas? I have a full warranty until 2009 (since 2005) and Dell has been awesome about sending a tech to my house the last 2 visits within 36 hrs of my phone call. I just can't afford to be without my laptop for even a week since they can't diagnose it over the phone.

I sprayed a lot of canned air in it as well, and it sits on a table 99% of use if that helps.

I've sat with tech for 3 hrs already, and they all transfer me and tell me to do the same thing over and over.

your idle temps are a little high, but it's more important to know what temps were reached during the game play.

The fact it froze up, and failed to boot indcates a problem with over temps.

Have you opened up the laptop and cleaned the vents ?

and try to get an ideal of the temps under load, most temp monitoring programs have a logging option.

Blowing air into it does nothing. You need to open it up and remove the fans. Clean the copper fins on the heatsinks. If you have never done that I guarantee the fins are completely blocked. The fans may spin but with nowhere for the air to go they can't do their job effeciently

Well, I payed something like 400 dollars for the warranty, and it has come in handy. Will it not be voided if I open it up? I wasn't planning on opening it until the warranty expired. (gfx card upgrade and such )

What program is the best? I use centrino hardware control, I can't find any logs if there would be any.

Your warranty is not void if you open it up(unless you break it while doing so). There is a very detailed manual on dells site, make sure to read it first and then make sure you can look at it after the laptop has been opened.
