Does anyone have any idea if there is a way to fix a hard drive that is allready to the death click stage? I have a hard drive that has me and my wife's pictures from our first date, and it has gone poopie.

throw it in the fridge for 30min

you'll get a good 5-10 usage out of it

fridge or freezer?

Freezer is what I have always done and it often works. Don't leave it in too long, just bring it down to the lowest temperature (probably 30 minutes in a good freezer) then pull it out and get right to work. Make sure you can move files fast because usually you can only get away with freezing it once. After that its gonna be toast (more often than not).

Like I said, I have done the freezer trick before and saved a lot of files before total oblivion... just remember once you power up you have a very small window of opportunity - hence use it wisely

What exactly is the death click? Is it the same as farming?
I have a 500GB lacie external which I recently dropped off the couch and its now farming (powering on, not appearing in my computer, constant messed up reading noise)
There wasnt a whole lot on it yet but it annoyed me alot as it was only dropped about a foot and onto carpet! Its only a few months old, im hoping I can get it replaced..

Hd's you gotta remember are extremely sensitive they sorta suck like that and that's why SDD HD's will be absolutely great. They withstand lots of problems and drops and they have higher data access speeds

It is going to be a VERY long time before solid state disks will be cost effective, so until then, just be careful.

The drive is quite dead. However, there is still hope. Drivesavers.com can get the data off there for you....HOWEVER I'm not going to lie to you, it's not cheap. I have a 10% off coupon code which is handy considering the expense. PM me if you want the coupon code.
