It's not a regular s-video port though, it's a proprietary port that has extra pins for component. ATI cards have had similar for years with their DVI ports.

Here are two links I found that suggest that it should be possible to achieve 1080i output via component cable from 7-pin S-Video port:

I haven't even read all of what DarcyV is saying but lets just say I find it completely wrong. Its not a standard S-video connection. Its 7-pin and thus can carry different signals. I have used the adapter to go up to 1080i but I typically just use 720p.

I've used this adaptor aswell, and have been unable to achieve more than SD out of it . . id be interested in learning how you got these resolutions? maybe different drivers.. which ones are you using? Perhaps I am wrong . .are you using the stock drivers or what? (maybe custom res through powerstrip?)

EDIT: .. .hmmm . . now I feel quite embarrased about my previous posts .. after re-installing my drivers (maybe after all the tweaking I did, I messed up something) .. but . . yes with this component adaptor is does seem that now I can enable 1080i / 720p.. I sincerly appolgize for my previous rant. . most of it is true, a standard svideo can't do hd, however i seems that the 7pin multi dell port can achieve this . . . I had been happily using my dvi->hdmi that i didn't test this as fully as i should have . .

So . . I guess the poster is in luck, and with this adaptor you can get 1080i component to your tv.

you folks that are having problems are setting it up incorrectly. I can run it in 720P on my 42" DLP in my living room through component or HDMI... I am about to test the 1080P TV in in my basement game room (at 1080I settings). I will post pics shortly

Keep in mind there is more than one S-video dongle out there. some dongles only come with a composite out & digital audio, while the others come with component connections.

Under the Nview display settings are you selecting the TV & then setting it as a 720P HDTV? (please tell me you are not using the borked TV wizard)... If you have, then you may already be out of luck, as half the time it screws up all the settings..Also use native scaling...Don't use overscan or underscan.

Here are some pics...keep in mind the jpeg compression doesn't do justice to these pics.

(and yeah I did not finish adjusting the settings in stalker, I just wanted to show it is capable of outputting 1080i) without any issues)

Which drivers are you using?

Good you got it going. Sorry for snapping a bit earlier, just been having a rough time resetting myself back up.

Well... I have 78.59 - the latest Dell offers on their site for E1705 with GeForce Go 7800 - and I don't see HDTV-related controls in nVidia Control Panel.

I tried installing 84.63 from nVidia site (the latest they offer for GeForce Go 7800) but they could not be installed - installation says my hardware is incompatible with these drivers.

Am I out of luck?

Any ideas if this will work for a Gen 2 with 7800 GTX?

Its the same 7-pin connector so I don't see why not.

Although the adaptor I received with my XPS2 was only composite.

I will try it with my XPS 2 in the morning, though it has the 6800u
