Aspire 2000 - how many people still using it

I was just wondering how many people are still using their Acer Aspire 2000 series notebook? Mine still runs good with no problems. I've upgraded the memory, hard drive, added internal bluetooth (1.1), upgraded to Vista Business, still can use the Arcade software to view movies and listen to CD's without booting Windows.

And it's still a nice looking notebook!

Yep, still use it! (23 nov 2007)
I have thought about buying a dual core notebook with 2 Gb RAM, but in general, everything works what i want to do with a laptop so i/m still happy with it.
I upgraded the aspire with a bluetooth module, a faster mini-pci wlan card.
Still a hdd of 40Gb (have 2TB storage in my home network) and 512 Mb ram, wich i'm thinking of upgrading to 1Gb.
In the past i have replaced the hinges myself (one was cracked, replacing it was easy) and under warranty the keyboard was replaced and the internal display cable.

Hi all! I have used it up to yesterday, with 756MB RAM and a new 80GB HD. Unlikely today the right hinge cracked so I'm looking for a new hinge, but it seems not an easy search... do you remember where you found you new hinge? or there is anybody selling this laptop? Thanks Tom

I am still using my Acer Aspire 2003WLMi after 5-6 years if I remember right.... and still doing a good job,... really happy with it!!!! The only problem I have now is that the right hinge has broken completely after it started with a small crack on it like 1 year ago.... I would like to find the piece to replace it ...but still haven't been able to ... I just found a site where they show it in their website but have no stock available... http://www.pchub.com/uph/laptop/291-...LCD-Hinge.html

If anyone has found it I would really appreciate if they could say where as the laptop is still in very good condition and I would like to keep it running.

But I also have considered getting a new one using both for different things. I wanna get the Toshiba Qosmio F50 (or F55, US version). Quite powerful for a laptop as it was my Acer 2003 some time ago.... Has anyone got any experience with those? I am waiting for them to be released in UK/Europe but haven't got any news about when...suppoused to be out around now. Any other recommendations? I want 4Gb RAM and 512 Mb dedicated Graphics Card memory in Core 2 Duo. I use 3D Modelling, CAD, rendering and multimedia software.

You might want to go over to the Toshiba side of these forums and ask there

Hi, you can find anything on ebay. Even my Aspire 2001 had a hing broken, and on ebay I found a new one. Try it. Ciao

Wow. Let's see. I bought my Acer Aspire 2000LCi while on a paintball tournament trip in Mardi Graw back in March 2004. I still use it as a bedside laptop to this day. I've replaced the HDD, up the RAM to 2Gb, installed the Blutooth module and replaced that damn right LCD hinge....twice! It's clear from reading the web that the hinge was definitely a problem. Unfortunately, getting Acer to help was virtually useless. My first one broke one week after the warranty expired. Oh well..It's broken again but the laptop has been rock solid other than that. So, I just use it for occasional browsing, or watching a vid whilst in bed. Loaded with features, and the Win XP Pro is stable. No complaints there.

Forgot to mention; I bought mine at Best Buy and paid otd right at $2000. Man, what $2000 will buy you now in laptops....incredible!
