Are you from a country other than the USA? Just curious because you ordered a 2.2 ghz processor, 160 GB hd, and xp pro. I ordered the 2999.99 model. It came standard. No Adjustments which was fine by me cause the 2999.99 was all I wanted.

My order shipped today and should arrive early next week. I just wish I would have ordered it monday... I could be playing on it right now! lol
The Dell rep lady told me that Dell made like a gazillion 2999.99 models and there are boxed up and are in storage, so when you order the 2999.99 model, it ships next day.
I think the only differ from the 2999.99 and the 3500ish 1730 is blue ray. Which I didnt want, plus later Ill just pick one up of ebay or somthing.
Im really looking forward to this... plus it drained my bank account so this machine better be worth it!
Prog
**** EDIT ****
Never mind about the country question. I now see the option for the xp series 1730. I didnt see that before. Damn dell!

I guess if Dell U.S. has premade 2999.00 ones on hand, that would explain your quick delivery/lack of customisation at the moment.
I live in New Zealand and normal delivery is ten working days,I just noticed my original order confirmation email said Oct 9th Eta,now when I check online it says Oct 17th.....hope they are not going to do an XPS M1330 job and start putting back the delivery date's again and again, that will annoy me enough to cancel the order,as I made a particular point with the rep about parts shortages/delivery times........plus its money I should be spending on other things
Do the U.S. laptops normally ship from Malaysia ?
Did you have no option, but to get the blue lid trim?which cpu ?
If I couldn't have ordered it with XP,I wouldn't have ordered one at all,I already have a Vista disc if sp1 magically makes it worthwhile having.

I am not sure. I believe the pc is built in Malaysia ( in bulk ), then shipped to the us. Mine is shipping from Nashville, Tennessee as I live in Ohio. Estimated shipping days total (3)... So I should have it Tuesday.
My laptop had no options. Strange I know, but its what they gave me... lol
I got :
2.4 GHZ CPU
200 GB 7200 RPM HD
SLI 8700
2GB Ram
DVD RW
Blue Lid
... Thats pretty much it
It worked out good for me because the 2999.99 option was exactly what I wanted.
The day after I ordered I noticed that you could order XP... I am a big xp fan, but I have a disc for XP Pro I might use if I dont like Vista... I havent really heard anything good about Vista... On the other hand, this is my first time owning and utilizing the OS. So we will see how good vista and gaming is.
O Ya... I checked the shipping weight.... 21 pounds!!! Holy Moly... Whats in there... well the puter weighs 11, Power supply 3 ... So total puter weight is 14 pounds... PLus 2 pounds packing material.... Hopefully food or somthing! Canned Goods! haha

Wow...holy shite, you guys are getting yours NEXT WEEK?!? I customized one, and it's been sitting 'In Production' (Pre-Production on the main Account page) for NINE DAYS (since 9/28)!! They haven't touched it, or even gathered the parts together in one place, apparently. My 'estimated ship date' isn't until October 22nd, FFS...how long does it bloody take to snap on a grey lid and a 2.8 processor?!? Muther pus-bucket.
PS. Yeah, I went ahead and ordered one, basically after hearing talk about the chassis design, of all things...(*hangs head in shame and shuffles feet, wondering why ~$5000 in business credit sounded like such a small number when convincing self it was worth it--then remembers this chassis will last 3 years and receive every graphics and processor upgrade Dell introduces along the way since they blew such a wad on R&D and have so much cooling head-room in the f@cker*)...all in all, this is the best thing I could buy, since it is (graphics-wise) at least a small upgrade from the 1710 (and in terms of overall features and power, a HUGE upgrade...they finally caught up with Sager in that department)...The big convincer, though, was the fact that it will likely only be obsolete when Dell decides to hibernate for another 1.5 years and design a new chassis, instead of just releasing four million upgrades for the thing, and beating everyone to the market with all the cool new hardware! Once again, I wish I could press the 'Fast-Forward' button on the VCR of life...heh, last time I wished that was ordering the 1710; before that, the XPS2; and before that, the XPS1. Each one lasted a bit longer before being replaced, and I'm hoping the 1730 is a leap beyond and will justify the early-adoption gamble (i.e. Pay more now and use it longer before obsolesence, or pay less later and need a new 'puter sooner to keep up with cutting edge).

My 1730 is in mail with DHL and I have a tracking number. Im hoping monday! heeh
It sounds to me like you are a man after my own heart. This is my third xps notebook. The first Gen 1 was awsome.. big, bulky and skulls! lol no-one had ever seen a laptop like that. it was big, but everyone thought it was bad asss.
Then a year later i Ordered the m170 - gen2. MMM wonderful machine! But I saw no need to get the m1710, by the time my 7800GTX was getting crusty it was time to wait for a sli notebook.
And now...1730! hehe
Its big and people think its ugg, but with sli 8700M, I think ill be good for current games...plus dell is promising the next gen card... O ya, it should be sweet.
Im really looking forward to this new laptop!
Cancel your order, order the 2999.99 and get ur laptop almost next day.

I want to order one with 2 solid state drives in a raid, extreme processor, and 4GB of memory.
But it's way too friggen much. I'm going to give a few months and see what other options they add and see what the price does.
I don't need 2 8700s in SLI. A single 512 would be good enough for me. I don't need the Physics accelorator either. Intel turbo cache would be nice.

Well when anybody gets theirs, some benchmarks would be very nice
I'm thinking about getting this mainly because once I'm off to graduate school, bringing my desktop may be a bit much. This would make things easier in terms of moving things and having room.
Oh and if say I got one with the T7700 (2.4 GHz), I'd be able to swap it out for the X7900 later if I'd like, yes? I don't plan on doing it anytime soon if and when I got the M1730, but perhaps later I might (like I did with my XPS Gen 2 for super cheap).

what I wanna know is the m1730:
XP vs Vista in 3d 06 and games... I hear that Vista sucks! I have never fully used it... dont look forward to it.... |
I'm probably going to instantly reformat...I've just heard too many stories about incompatibility with current games and barfing on framerates...even if you want to dual boot, though, you'll have to reformat, because XP must apparently be installed FIRST to dual-boot the OS's...?

If you want to dual-boot, I'm pretty sure you won't need to format. Considering you don't have much to back up, try one these guides on APC Magazine.
