This laptop is in the corner unused until I get the 8800 sli - too big to mess with without some massive power. Right now using a newer rev xps1530.

Any idea or where do I find out if the 8800 sli board is ready for the 1730?
No word on that, and no way to find out, unfortunately. I was hoping to have at least an annoucement of a release date, by now, so now I am hoping to get the NEXT gen (1740?) sometime around mid-summer. There will likely be no 8800 card in the XPS line, let alone 8800 SLI...Dell HAVE promised 'a 150-Watt graphics solution' at some point in the future, but they've never specified what that will be or when it will arrive. If they don't follow through on this AT ALL, and leave the 1730 owners high and dry with nothing but a machine that's not even as fast as the 1710 I ditched for this, I will NEVER buy another product from Dell, period.

Im stil puzzled as to how there going to handle the upgrades. the XPS Gen 1 and Gen2 was done pretty well but there was no such option for the M1710.

I am wondering aswell. My AW M15x ships next with a 8800 gtx in it. Wierd that AW has them but nothing is being offered or even mentioned by dell. Clevo/sager are also offering the 8800 gtx. So I have no idea what is taking dell so long. I am thinking there may be an issue with the mother board. If I remember correctly some clevos 901 or 902 need a MOBO change to accepth the new 8800 gtx. I just wonder if dell are taking teh time to get it right, or just sticking there head in the sand and hoping that the XPS M1730 owners will go away.....

Maybe Dell is waiting for Nvidia to release a DirectX 10.1 compatible card (8850 ?). I read that 10.1 (pixel shader 4.1) requires a hardware change.

That's my thought as well considering even HP is carrying the 8800

That's the stupidest ****ing thing I've ever heard in my life. I'm selling this $5000 piece of shit paperweight and buying one with an 8800. This thing is monstrously heavy (not that I care), but it is also barely faster(and sometimes slower) than my 1710.

Otherwise, can I buy a 15" laptop, rip out the card and jam it into my 17"? I mean, why doesn't Dell offer the ****ing upgrade to the 8800 while we're waiting for the 8850 (which is - how long? - maybe six or nine months away)? I mean, I paid a shitload of money to have the best gaming PC NOW, not 12 months from now, and this was with the understanding that the chassis would hold a 150Watt card that was *Coming Soon*, and wouldd be tonz faster than the current dual 7950SLI (still the fastest thing out there). If I'd known this bullshit was going to hapen, I would have bought a dual 7950 and then sold that and bought the 8850 whenever it appeared (which may be 2009 for all we know...I'd never even HEARD of such a laptop card before dude above me mentioned the ****ing thing). GO WASH YOUR HEAD, Dell!

Well the performance isn´t that bad, I got a huge boost with the 171.16 Vista Drivers, pulling 30-40 fps in Gears of War 1920x1200 all maxed, 40-50fps in STALKER 1920x1200 and with dynamic lighting on, sliders lowered here and there.

Lost Planet Demo DX10 30-40 fps in 1440x900 most options on High

Crysis DX9 1440x900 Medium Settings, HDR enabled 25-30fps

Note all tests done under Vista, haven´t installed XP yet. XP will yield even better results. Not too shabby.

COD4 is running just fine @ 1900x1200, all maxxed.

Lowest fps it would drop is around 30s, and averages about 50.

Well just use LaptopVideo2go drivers, they have for XP too.

WOW...are you running XP or Vista? What drivers are you using? What do you define as 'maxxed out'? AA 4x,. AF all the way up, Textures: Manual EXTRA; & etc.?

Thanks!

How about Jericho? Anyone else blasting through the games at full settings I named above? Please post specs. It sounds like I'm doing something fundamentally WRONG, though, which would be GREAT because it can be FIXED!!!

Thanks, guys!

According to that link, Nvidia won't be releasing any hardware to support 10.1. If that's true, then there has to be some other reason why Dell is waiting. I just know I'm getting pissed.

Oops, forgot about the AA off All other options are maxed. Didn't mean to mislead. Vista Ultimate btw.
