lol, ever since Dell's been stalling, I've been looking at Gateway, Toshiba, and Sager notebooks to get a quad-core capable gaming rig. I've got to get something to take to med schools because you can't game on a Macbook.

I'm curious, where has anyone read that Dell is ending the XPS line? this was speculated when they bought Alienware years ago. But we still have XPS systems.
I did read a german article that showed a Dell media rep in Europe talking about the 9800SLI in the 1730. It could be nice.
It was a big rumor awhile ago and then it was quelled soon after. However, speculation now is that the XPS line will no longer have the highest end parts as those will be devoted to alienware. Frankly, none of this matters to me as I would not buy the XPS series anymore anyway. Its Precision or nothiing for me.

If Dell did indeed quit making XPS's, would our current Complete Care roll over to the Alienwares? One would think they would have to considering they would run out of XPS parts eventually (if they stopped manufacturing).

You're twisting what has been said. No one said the XPS series was gonna be gone. Just that it would no longer be the true performance series it used to be. All this is speculation so you're just gonna have to wait and see.

The XPS gaming line is gone. Only left Dell 4 months ago and we were all talking about it inside.
Its now a 'Premium' notebook line
M1730 is the last gaming 17" from them

But...they are updating it soon. 9800's and quad core cpu's
So maybe a new mainboard to get all that working I'm guessing

FYI we now have the option of "NVIDIA® SLI™ Dual GeForce® 9800M GTX with 1GB GDDR3 Memory"

Im lookin at it now. oh also standard GT, so 2 new options.
where? what link?
found it. Dell australia. not US yet. How does Dell expect to justify 1700$ for the card? It's pretty much the 8800

The GT is alot cheaper than the GTX, if you are so inclined.

wait a sec.. if I'm reading it right. these are dual 1 gig cards. so you get the overclock plus the extra 512 on each card.
When I go to Dell's USA site, it says "NVIDIA® SLI™ Dual GeForce® 8800M GTX with 1GB GDDR3 Memory" so I think it should say 2GB if they mean 1GB on each card.

And while 2GB would be cool and all, I don't think the 9800m GTX has the processing horsepower or memory bandwidth to actually back that up. But I guess we'll see.
just went to dell. the $2200 has the 9800GT card. Dual 512's. and if you change to the dual 8700's. it increases by $300. awesome cart issues.
All I am seeing on the USA site is dual 9800M GT's. Does anyone have any performance numbers relating the 8800M GTX, 9800M GT, and 9800M GTX's?

now that the base 1730 has the 9800GT 1gig card. Stil no GTX option in US yet. Weird. What does this do to resale value on the used 1730's and 1710's out there?
for anyone who doesnt have one. The dell XPS 1730 bag has dropped $100 in cost.
