More like to spread the soldering out to the joints due to drying up from previous bad soldering.

cheers ...

Yes, Im pretty much keeping my XPS alive by baking the graphics card. Pretty much once a month I have to leave it in the oven.

12 mins bake time @ 380 degrees
let sit for 20 mins. Have to take off heatsinkeetc.

Smells real bad, newest problem is "AC Adapter not recognized"

Any ideas on that one? MB or power brick?

Hard to say, could be either. Does it happen all the time? How do you make it charge?

12 min might be too long to be in the oven and 20 mins sitting might be too short for everything to settle down before you move it.

The error is most likely from a bad adapter.

I had the same issue, called Dell, they came out and replaced motherboard, power supply and battery. so, unsure as to what the issue was, I suspect motherboard.

usually if it is the motherboard, the DC jack is loose and you would notice it

Many times the AC adaptor not reconized is the DC cord has a broken wire in it.

Try ordering a new AC adaptor, or borrow another one if you can to verify the problem.

or if it's still under warranty, call Dell and you'll most likely get a new battery, power cord and motherboard -)

No my warranty is long gone. I'd hate to just buy a new adapter and find out its the DC joint on the Motherboard.

1. Buy a new DC Joint ( I hear there are 2 variations? ) I'd probably have to solder this or find someone to do it
2. Buy a new AC Adapter

I'm not sure of the cost of a new Motherboard but i'm sure its not cheap, but surely not 900 bucks Dell wanted to replace my 8800m. FML
