Dell Latitude D510 Fn (Function) key not working

Hey i own a Dell Latitude D 510. Recently my Fn key stopped working. happened before a couple of months ago. then i got my OS reinstalled which apparently solved the problum. but now the problum is back again. i dont wanna get OS reinstalled everytime. does anyone know why this happens and what can i do to solve/avoid this problum. ?

Try running the Dell Diag32 util (if your HD has never been formatted, hit F12 at the BIOS screen then select the bottom option, if it has be formatted boot from the Drivers & Utils CD (F12 screen again)) and running the keyboard tests to see if there's any intermittent trouble with that k/b. Next I'd go into BIOS (F2) and load defaults.

If it's under waranty, just call Dell TS and if the above doesn't work say it's intermittent and you suspect either the k/b or m/b.

Keyboards getting dirty/sticky & keys getting broken off are the most common k/b issues.

Hello,
This is Rick from Dells online team again. I really don't think that reinstalling the OS is a solution to your problem. I agree with Pally that it is probably just an intermittent keyboard issue. If you are still under service contract just call into support and let them know that you have a key that occasionally doesn't respond and request they send you a keyboard. It is quite easy to replace and will help narrow down the problem if its not the keyboard.

Let me know if I can help you if a replacement keyboard doesn't fix your issue.
