This morning, decided to check the RAM modules and see if perhaps one had gone wonky. Pulled the top one, started the 8790. Still the same problem- stopped at BIOS (stopped @ the DVD drive). Took out the lower RAM. Inserted the top RAM into the lower slot. Started machine. Nothing. No BIOS readout. Power button light, charge lights and fans come on, but nothing happens on-screen. Swapped out the RAM again, started machine. No go. Put both pieces back in. Started machine. Nothing. Was going to try pulling out the DVD drive and resnugging it, but now I can get nothing, so this thing's totally FUBAR.
