2nd hand dell 1100 help

Thread Starter
ok couple days ago i found a 2nd hand dell 1100 and it says on the top of the case bad 32k chip what can this be? i was think they ment the cpu 32bit chip? but not sure.

also the laptop didint come with no ram so i cant test it much.

i bought the ac adaptor for it when i try to power it turns on with nothing on the screen just the light caplock and stuff stays on and the fans are on than the laptop will power off in 6sec.

i know it will not boot up or anything because of no ram but should it turn off by it self with no ram? i know desktops stays on and beep when theres no ram but never tried a laptop with no ram.

i just dont want to buy ram for it to find out that doesint atleast boot it up and i wasted money.

also there was another laptop with it compaq m700 that boots up and everything but has a bad screen when you push on the back of the screen it flickers and turns colors.

that laptop i whould want to buy a new screen for because it works good.

but i whouldint mind haveing this dell one working to because it has pretty decent specs not as good as my 9300 but good for small things.

but just dont want to spend alot on it to found out something went big on it...

The error message you're getting with the lock lights sounds like a lack of memory to me. Borrow a stick of DDR notebook memory from another system and see if that helps. and bad 32k chip doesn't mean anything to me. Could be the EEPROM for the BIOS I guess. But I don't know.
