Vostro 1500 - something seriously wrong?

Hi Guys, just got a Vostro 1500 with T7300 chip. BIOS settings: Speedstep and IDA enabled. NHC displays a clock rate of 2GHz whatever your settings. In CPU-Z however it varies between 1.2 and 1.6 GHz. In fact, in the "Max. Perf" setting it is locked at the lower rate of 1.2 GHz! Whether NHC is installed or not, I never get a 2GHz rate. Can someone confirm? Is there something majorly wrong with either BIOS or the motherboard?

I think it's a glitch, because I get pretty much the exact same readings. The latest CPU-Z is all over the place, maxing out at around 1.586GHz and for whatever reason showing 1.195GHz when I set NHC to max perf. NHC's reading my clock at 2GHz full-time too. (Actually, it displays 1.99 & 2.00) I do notice that if you check system properties, the clock speed is actually correctly reported when you change NHC profiles, even though it appears you aren't doing anything. If anyone knows how to fix all this I'd love to know.

With the tool SuperPi I got the clock up to 2GHz. NHC however doesn't seem to be compatible with this platform/processor. RMClock works though. Please tell if it does for you as well. B

Mines the same with NHC and I8kfangui,neither display correct speeds, and I also wonder about temps in I8k,NHC seems to still actually change the clock speeds even though it doesn't display properly though.

Probably get fixed with newer versions of this software...when available,I remember when I got my precision M70,that was a new chipset and most of this type of software took a bit to catch up and work out the bugs.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that speedstep kicking in.

There is an option in the BIOS to turn off CPU throttling, so your CPU will run at the spec'd speed all the time. Now, this will use up more power and the CPU will run hotter, so be warned.

Actually you have this backwards. If you disable speedstep in the BIOS the processor will run at its slowest speed thus making the system run cooler and use less battery.
