How to install XP but keep Vista restore options

Hi all,
Just got a new laptop with Vista home basic installed. I want to install XP Pro to speed it up, but i'd like to keep the hidden recovery partition (with Vista recovery on it) and the Alt+F10 recovery option at boot intact and working.
Can this be done and how? Will a format of the C: partition during XP Pro installation damage any of the options I want to keep?

BTW. The lap is an Acer Aspire 3680. If all lap makers make thise hidden partitions in the same way then it shouldnt matter, but i thought i mention it just the same.

Thanks.

Reading and understanding boot principles of XP and Vista from Microsoft's site would be so helpful before any attempt of installing dual OS's.
İnstalling Xp after vista causes very serious problems.Vista must be install after Xp on seperate partitions.M.S shows the way of it...

Don't want to make a dual boot because the lap is unusably slow under vista, so there is no reason for keeping it. Just want to keep the restore option alive. I'v already burned the recovery dvd's, but would also like to keep the recovery partition and the ALt+F10 option intact. Any thought's on that please ?

Buy another HD. Remove the Vista HD & install the new one and put XP on the new drive. If you have to return your system to Acer, put the original HD back in.

use acronis true image home 10 to image your visa drive to an external drive or dvds, you can then also image your new xp install and swap between them whenever
