Compal CL56/Velocity-Micro Notemagix P52? - Keyboard annoying issue

Hey guys, I have had this laptop for over 3 years now and I have put up with a lot from it - I completely resoldered the power connector (as all the laptops go bad that way and mine did too), I am having a ridiculously short battery life (~30-45 mins) and I had to physically desolder the audio jack from it and reconnect it using small wires for future longevity... very long, tedious process - 6 tiny wires I had to resolder to it, anyway - its all good.

Everything seemed to have settled down, yet this thing developed yet another problem - this time, not so easily solvable. I started having issues with the keyboard - first the keys "p", ";", "[", "'", "/", "-", "=", "\" and backspace wouldnt work, then "g" and "h" and now - "l", "o", "9", and "0" - maybe more. I am using an external keyboard at this point. I have taken this poor thing apart way too many times and I traced the problem to a video card - since when you press on the connector on the board, deforming it, it will start typing and the contact will be made.

Having said that, I have no idea where to find a replacement board - velocity micro says they want $330 + shipping for the board, and there is no way I can afford it - even the basic laptops nowadays cost less, so I can just get a replacement whenever. Problem is - I really like this laptop and I want to keep it and I want it to work, so does anyone have a RADEON 9700 PRO card they would be able to sell me to put into my laptop - since the laptop is designed in a way that the keyboard controller plugs into the video card, or has anyone had a similar problem and knows how to resolve it?

Thank you all, all help is very greatly appreciated :-)

Cmon guys, no ideas? Has anyone encountered something similar on a different laptop? This laptop is not much of a lap top, more like a desk top at the moment.

-Thank you all, Artem

I have a CL56 too, and while I have different issues, the keyboard has always been a little tetchy. I had to send mine back to Bizcom/Compal for repairs, and it cost me about $200 for a replacement grpahics card when mine burned out completely. About 3 months later, the southbridge chipset got overheated and seems to have lost a good deal of functionality (no audio or USB anymore!) and honestly I'm just looking to replace it now.

As for the keyboard, the only real problem I have with it is that it misses keystrokes if I type too fast. Reseating the keyboard connector helps a little sometimes, but mostly I've just learned to live with it for now.

Would you be interested in selling your video card or whole laptop for cheap after you replace it? I am tired of this thing and I cant live with the damn thing = and the power connector is horrible now, I resoldered it about a year ago but its just come back, I really need to do something about that, its VERY annoying. Is the south bridge located on the video card board or not? - just wondering.. -Artem
