Vista vs XP Pro

Thread Starter
I want to buy a new Toshiba laptop but would like to stick with XP Pro for now. Does anyone have any ideas as to which Satellite notebooks will still run XP?

Thanks,

Rex

I don't want to be a Vista basher, and I would like to think that everyone is just scared of a new thing.... but..... don't get Vista. It's only popular because it looks flashy and Microsoft isn't selling XP to computer companies anymore, so they have to use Vista.

I have used Vista, and I dual-boot on my laptop, and I have to say it's very cool, and I can't wait until they get the bugs ironed out. However, just like when Windows XP came out, we all had to install it, hate it, and then reinstall Windows 2000 for a few months. In the end, all the bugs will be fixed, and we'll be able to use all of the excellent new features and stability that Vista is *capable* of. For now though, it crashes non-stop, drivers are very hard to find (it's been out for HOW long now? get with it driver people!) if they even exist, and the added security features are mainly just annoying popups asking you if you are sure you want to run "control panel" as it may damage your system. Good grief, I had to turn them all off, which makes the security the same as XP.

i dunno why everyone complains about compatibility so much. Is it only with accessories like game controllers and video cameras? I have vista running perfectly smooth on my new (first) build. I just had to find the correct drivers, took me all of a half hour, then all my hardware works flawlessly. I have had absolutely zero problems. Then again, i don't use many, if any, peripherals. My only complaint so far has been itunes' lack of 64 bit support...

Well, when I had it on my desktop, I couldn't play any steam games (Half-life 2, Counterstrike, and similar) even after I had installed ALL the correct and latest drivers. I had random lockups twice a day, and the security popups drove me nuts. Boot-up time is roughly twice as long as XP, and the hard drive management tools and networking tools are no longer easy to use; they're a pain. I have Vista 64 on my laptop as well as XP. I can play games in XP, but if I boot the exact same machine into Vista to run said games, I get about 7 frames per second, which is unplayably slow. I tried getting tweaked drivers, designed for Vista 64, and they resulted in the computer turning itself off completely whenever trying to get into a game. I have yet to test Vista 32, but I need to do that next.

I don't play any Games on my notebooks, never have, but, works great for recording MP3's, Streaming Web-Radio, Music files, DVD Recording & DVD Movies, and Basic Web Surfing, WIFI, High Speed Internet and Premium Sound, and that's about it for me........... If I want to Play any Games.........well, I have a PS3 and a XBOX 360 for that
