Microsoft Vista Downgrade

Seems MS has caved in,

Hate Vista? If your PC is running Microsoft Windows Vista Business or Windows Ultimate and you're fed up with the OS you may be able to ditch Vista for XP Pro. Microsoft is quietly allowing you to downgrade to Windows XP Pro.

Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and Lenovo are just a few of the system manufacturers offering downgrades. Each of these PC makers offer an XP Pro recovery disc to those who request one that can be used to revert a Vista machine to XP Pro.

Dell, HP, and Lenovo customers can request a Windows XP Pro recovery disc to be included with their purchase of a Vista machine - should they want to revert in the future. Customers who already have purchased a Vista-PC can request an XP Pro recovery CD for between $15 to $20 by calling technical support.

How anyone can go back to XP after using Vista is beyond me.

My thoughts exactly...WHY would anyone want to go back to XP?

How anyone can consider Vista better than XP is beyond me.

Trading compatibility and stability for eye candy and bloat is not worth it

Thank god someone else says so. Vista has higher hardware requirements, and overall takes a larger toll on system resources in trade for some pretty skin job and things like "flip 3d" which I never actually use. My laptop on XP has been running very stable, my system running vista has been running 1 month and I've had to reinstall the OS a dozen times and am still working with a tech dept. trying to get the problem sorted out.

VISTA SUCKS.

My daughter has Vista Basic on her computer and I thought it was ok. She really hasn't installed any programs on it so I don't know about compatibility issues but just surfing the net and burning CD's seemed to work ok. However, when I had to make my choice on which OS to put on my 1710, I went with XP Pro and I have been very happy with it.

I thought it was great, but I don't even have more than 2 games and necessity type programs on it and I'm running into incompatibilities. I think it's probably just driver problems, but of course I need drivers to run my components so I'm left out to die.

Ive had Vista from before it's release (beta tester) and I have had NOT ONE problem on my 9300 or 9400.
It amazes me how people complain about it taking up more resources, being more hungry....it is a newer OS, of course it will...XP uses a shitload more resources than 2000 or Me...it's natural progress...you don't hear anyone complain about how much resources XP uses now, but back at it's release, a lot of people did, just like they are with Vista now...

But everyone has their own opinions which is fair enough...

It-has-terrible-incompatibilities.

End of story. I have all new technology in my new desktop, BAM....shot to hell with vista.

I also was a beta tester, and for the most part Vista was crap with my configurations. SLI was a disaster, and driver problems still plague some users.

Yes I do remember when XP came out, I also said it was crap, and it was not until SP1 came out that many of those issues were fixed. and I installed it then.

I assume that MS will fix many of Vista's issues when the Service pack comes out, but It is also apparant that Vista is a resource hog, as it was designed with new hardware in mind, and the legacy hardware was ignored.

So as with anything, Vista's acceptance boils down to each users specfic hardware setup and what drivers if any are out there for it.

The only Vista OS I am relly keen to try right now is the 64 Bit version, which when I receive it in a week or two will be setup as a Dual boot config, so I can give it a 64 bit OS one more try.

But the problem with Linux distro's is the learning curve. I don't believe it to be an operating for the average joe pc user yet. This coming from a dual boot ubuntu / XP user.

Vista, I don't care what anyone has to say that's good about it...it's Windows ME all over again. Sure, it's pretty, and it works on SOME configurations, but overall, it's more trouble than it's worth. It seems to me like the majority of users have had some sort of incompatibility/instability problems. I know I have. I recently downgraded back to XP because of this.

Sigh, one of those bums again. Get a job and you'll learn to value and appreciate good things when you see them.
