When I receieved my I8600 it said "MADE IN MALAYSIA" guess they have differents factories for different parts of the world. Its cool, as long as its a solid they can put it together anywhere they want, just keep saving us money...
Thanks,
J

HOLY KOMOLLY!!!! Desktops MUST be made in a whole different build cycle... 2 DAYS ago I ordered a 4600 customized desktop for my father in law, it shipped in 2 days...
Order listed below on dell's site:
Ordered 4/12/2004 ********* Shipped 4/14/2004 ******* $1,703,002,342.27
A tad pricey, but I got him some real sweet options...

My system has been in "Boxing" for two days now.

Ya know though, it's going to be sooooo cool when I do get it. I ordered a laptop from Gateway last year but failed to notice that the video card was an Intel so that really limited my game playing. Now my wife will get the Gateway and I'll game on my new system. Oh yea, I upgraded the i9100 to the specs of the xps with the exception of the speed and I came out with half the price.

This is the latest message on the Dell website, I even tried calling their automated telephone service.

No tracking info yet...

Hello everyone.. first post here.. I was doing some research about dells lack of support issue and length of time for delivery.. ordered my 9100 on 4/12 and so far here is my current tracking..

Delivery Estimate: April 28 - April 30
Status as of Thursday, April 15, 2004 Central Time
1. Order Processing: Tuesday, April 13, 2004 --checked

2. Pre-production: Tuesday, April 13, 2004 --Checked

3. In Production: Tuesday, April 13, 2004 ----Checked
a. Kitting ---- grey
b. Build ----grey
c. Testing ---grey
d. Boxing ---grey

4. Shipping Prep: Friday, April 23, 2004

5. Estimated Ship Date: Friday, April 23, 2004

So im a little confused on their scheme.. has mine not gone to kitting or has it not really gone to in production. I know im jumping the gun a little because a lot of people have waited forever and mines only been 3 days so far. Just want to make sure i get it before christmas.. LOL

BTW -- Great forum!!

bah, i ordered by phone yesterday and don't even have a damn tracking number or anything yet...i wonder if the guy actually placed my order.

Systematic..
I ordered mine on 3/22, they told me that the delivery setimate was on April 26.. (This was when these models had 20 business day lead time)..

Mine went into production a few days after ordering. According to the website, one morning (4/8) went straight from "building" (it skipped testing and boxing) to shipped on the same day, I received it 4/12 (two weeks before initial ETA).. So don't believe too much what these website says... it's much better to call a human that can get in contact with the production facility to have a good estimate..

BTW, the 9100 is a good buy.. so far I love it..

Just called the 1800 number. apparently my 8600 is in the build phase even though online it is listed as InProduction with kitting and everything else greyed out
