Dell's Infamous "InProduction" Status.... Question? - Page 2

Their website today said there was a 30 day delay for the EE processor.... Also a delay on the 100GB HD, and both the new wireless cards... Guess things are getting backed up again, glad my order is in....

Holy excrement! My iXPS just moved to Boxing! It moved from Build to Testing just a few hours ago.

If Dell's order status page updates in real time that would imply just a few hours of testing!

Hey KevDA and everyone,

On the advice of my rep, I cancelled and reordered an XPS 3.4 non-EE with her assurance that I would not lose my place in the queue. (I ordered the original iXPS 3.4 EE on 2/27 and it was in the build stage from 3/2 on.) She said the hold was due to the EE cpu.

Anyway, the rep was mistaken! I lost my place in line and had to start over?!? Anyway, I was miserable and frustrated. I called and spoke with a sales manager and he basically told me it was my battery holding me up, not the processor. I told him that the rep told me...etc... Anyway, I wound up keeping the non-EE order and today it went into Testing! Yeah!

The morale of the story: Ask for the sales manager.

Someday my XPS will come,
Jen

PS. BBerman - Any photos? Sounds like it's worth the wait.

PPS. Reordered 4/2/04. Testing 4/8/04.

Thought of that, but....

a) the EE has to ship one day you'd think.

b) I priced out the difference between the order I have and a non-EE system, and it works out to about $250 CDN less for the non-EE with the new pricing if I keep all other options the same. This despite the EE itself being a $1300 upgrade from the 3.4. Somehow this doesn't seem like a good deal...

... but having said that, I just priced out a 9100 that's as close as I can get on specs, and it's more like $700 cheaper. This is with the WSXGA+ screen instead of the WUXGA+, so that will account for some of it... but in some ways I like the idea of the slightly lower res screen anyway (if the XPS offered WSXGA+ I probably would have gone with it).

This is starting to get a little tougher. Only thing is I don't like the blue in the 9100 case...

Hey KevDA,

Yep, I thought the same thing too. EE has to ship sometime. But I haven't heard or read anything from any owners. It's sort of an unknown at this point.

I talked to the sales manager and asked if he's extend my discounts from the original deal. He was very nice to talk with and helpful. I really felt that he listened to me. After explaining that I felt that I was being penalized for the delay and that I need the system asap for work, etc. Especially after I explained that the original EE was $800 more than the non-EE and that the new order was only $300 difference. He did some number crunching and told me that he'd email my sales rep for the price adjustment. All in all, I feel better about this now...

Hopefully it'll ship soon!

Good luck with yours,
Jen

i ordered the 3.4 GHZ EE /100 GB combo on 3/11. It moved into Production -> Build stage 2 weeks ago and its been there since.... although i also purchased a dimension xps 3.2 NON EE/2001FP on 3/29 and i got it on 4/6, i doubt the ship date on the iXPS of 4/13 will be met.....all in all, cr&ppy ship delays; like u said, it HAS to ship sometime... till then, i'll keep myself entertained with the Dimension's gorgeous 16ms 20.1 Inch display
post #28 of 1048
Interesting tidbit - around the time I ordered the Inspiron XPS, a buddy ordered a Dimension XPS also with the 3.4 EE (also not shipped yet). He told me he was just looked at the Dimension page and the EE chips weren't offered anymore. Curious....
I ordered mine on 3/26, shows an estimated ship date of 5/13 - 5/17.

Today, 4/9 (2 weeks after initial order) and it still has not moved from "In Production". They haven't billed me yet either... no charge to my credit card as of yet...

But, I ordered the 3.4 EE...

I imagine they are only getting small lots of EE's at a time from Intel... the same thing happened with the Dimension XPS' when 3.2 EE's started being offered...

I believe the current shipments are being heldup because of following components

DellĀ® Wireless 1350 Internal Wireless (802.11b/g, 54Mbps) 7 days
DellĀ® Wireless 1450 Internal Wireless (802.11a/b/g, 54Mbps) 7 days

Cool. You deserve a few more bananas.
For those keeping track, my iXPS went from boxing to in transit in less than 48 hours. I also ordered my system a day or two before the TrueMobile 1400 wireless card was replaced by the Wireless 1450, so perhaps mine is moving on through the system while everyone else's is hung up on materials. I still think it might be the Plasma cover!

3/28: Ordered
?/??: Kitting
?/??: Building
4/08: Testing
4/08: Boxing
4/10: In Transit
4/21: Estimated Ship (I think they'll beat this)

Slother, thanks for the extra bananas...

I agree Dell should be able to deliver your system this week...What type of shipping did you select?
They were running the "Free Shipping" promo, so I didn't get to choose. I ended up with 3-5 business days shipping.

If you call, they may upgrade to next or 2nd day for free...They upgraded mine...
Thanks for the advice, but they already shipped it! My system is to be delivered between 4/14 and 4/16. That's 17 to 19 days after I ordered - not too shabby.

How're everyone elses orders looking? If any of your are still waiting did you get the 1350 or 1450 wireless cards? I got the 1400, so maybe that is why I'm getting mine so fast.

Yeah, I got the 1450 abg card so that could be what is holding mine up. However, I also ordered the 100 GB hardrive as well, which has a current 7 day delay on it, too. So it could be either or in my situation. Ordered on 03/31 and still sitting in the build stage, but doubt they are going to work on anything until after the holiday weekend... Keeping my fingers crossed....
