Dell's Infamous "InProduction" Status.... Question? - Page 5

i seem to remember someone saying like 3 days, because that includes shipping from taiwan or someplace like that. I dunno for sure though, mine went into boxing yesterday evening. I was hoping to see it by the end of the week, as i have to leave town this weekend for a wedding and have a huge project to work on also. Writing a Pascal Compiler for a class. Man that kinda bites.

Dell adds bunch of stuff i.e. CDs, Manuals, foam etc during boxing...My guess is that stuff maybe in short supply.

Sure thing I will,.. but man it's taking a long time. I hope this laptop is worth the wait.

I just ordered a i9100 and it is already in the "boxing" stage. Maybe I'll get lucky and recieve it promptly.

Actually my friend told me this, major parts of dell laptops like motherboards or housing or even LCD are actually made and
assembled in some laptop factories like Quanta in Taiwan.
Only a few parts from China and the barebone systems eventually go to Malaysia, and the dell people complete the laptops, maybe cpu,
hdd adding-on based on you guys' orders and also test
them in Malaysia. Finally they fly to the States.

Most laptops in the market are made in China and I just don't like
the mark" made in China", considering made in malaysia or made
in taiwan might be better quality.

WOW, not a good sign for me...

Maybe they truly are shipping these things back from across the world prior to shipping.... That sucks...

I ordered this morning (4/14), and almost immediately went to "in production" stage. But it is just the "in production" broad view thing that is highlighted. Haven't actually hit kitting yet.

Mine's been at that stage for about 4 days now

According to a rep on the order status forum at Dell's Customer Care site, the reason it takes so long in boxing is it's built and tested in Malaysia and boxed in Tennessee. Three business days is a normal wait in boxing.

Any word on why mine just stays on the InProduction w/o the kitting being highlighted for 4 days? And wouldn't it make more sense to just have them box it in malaysia since they gotta ship from there ne ways and bypass the tennessee stop?

Ok so let me get this straight..... They build the machines in Malaysia and "SHIP" them to the United States for boxing.... What the heTT are they shipped in???? They stacking these things ontop of each other... Very strange concept, one would think after being built they would then be BOXED securely thereafter, in the hut in Malaysia where they are built...
Lets hope!!!!

Yep... First Malaysia, then Tennessee... This is how I got mine.. it said all over the box "Computer Made in Malaysia" like 3 times so I didn't forget..
But when speaking with a customer rep, she told me that they only assemble the custom systems in TN.. I am thinking that all the base models are done in Malaysia, then they add all custom extras in the US...

I believe my i8600 (if anyone cares), was made in Singapore and shipped here to Australia. I think all Pacific orders are made in Singapore.
