* sigh *

I think I'm going to wait on getting the Q6600 G0 and see how well that Q9450 does. That is just an amazing price.

God damn my impatience. If Crysis had come out on time I would've been good to go, but of course not, they had to delay it so I could feel the pain of the 9 series, 45nm quads and the X38 chipset. GO TO HELL TECHNOLOGY.

What kinds of retail prices do these translate to?

Newegg and other retailers will tack on another 100 dollars to these baseline prices. The prices here are for per 1,000 chip batches.

When the new C2D's came out, newegg and others would charge about 100 more. I'm just guessing from past experience, hopefully that doesn't happen.

I don't see how $200 justifies a .17ghz clock increase for you

I suppose you could look at it like that. or you could look at it as 170 Mhz.

Overall I can't wait for these chips to be released. Im so damn excited for first quarter 08.

I'm pretty well bummed, cause now I have to wait till Jan 08 or later to finish my rig.

=(

I wouldn't look at anything other than the Q9450 all of those other quads are filler. lol

You've got the sweet spot of 12mb cache for a low price that can probably be overclocked to hell (45nm = less heat)

Lucky bastard. I wish I waited longer to build my rig.

Slightly "dumb" question, but isn't 45nm a new motherboard standard?

45nm=nanometer is the size of the die in the cpu. The smaller the die, the less voltage, less heat. So it will overclock to hell and back alot better than before.

Unfortunately, that's greek to me.

I have an Asus P5N-E SLI. Will I be able to use a Penryn CPU in that motherboard?

you should be able to. Peryn CPUs should be compatible with the current Core 2 architecture. However, after Intel releases their new architecture sometime in the middle of next year, THEN you may have to upgrade more than a CPU if you want to stay on the cutting edge.

With BIOS 1103 and later you should be good to go.

for some reason i thought the Peryn was the new architecture.

Im in no rush to build a new PC anyway. Jan 08 sounds perfect to me. Just in time for my Bday.

QX9650: 4140MHz on air!

Quote:
The guys over at Nordichardware got their hands on the latest Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 12MB L2 Yorkfield CPU, trying to overclock it using both air and LN cooling. The result is 460MHz FSB and 4140MHz stable clock frequency achieved with ASUS P5E3 Deluxe motherboard, all air cooling. Using liquid nitrogen, the same QX9650 CPU goes up to 5600MHz, breaking all SuperPI and 3DMark 05/06 world records. The new world records are now 37,095 points in 3DMark 05, 27,542 points in 3DMark 06 and 8.110s in SuperPI. The benchmark system consists of ASUS Maximus Formula R.O.G X38 motherboard, paired with Mushkin's fastest Redline DDR2 running at 4-4-4-5 timings with a 4:5 divider and two ASUS Radeon HD 2900 XT video cards (1120/980MHz).

Now thats what I'm talking about!

p.s. I wish I could get my hands on gear like this. X38 mobo's and new 45nm cpu's =(
