CMOS batteries do not require a technician to replace and sometimes it depends on how often you use your notebook...

Great. I've looked all around and cannot find any instructions on how to locate and replace the battery. Can you help me find some instructions? Thanks.

At a local shop, it's $150 minimum labor to change the battery on a Gateway 9300. Have to remove case, screen, and keyboard to get to it. Hope the Sagers are easier.

What Sager have you got?
Have you searched for a technical manual?
I have the 9880. Yes, I've searched for a technical manual. Guess I'll have to call one of the resellers and ask if they can provide a technical manual.

I want to get a 9261. How do you like yours?

edit:
Just talked to Sager tech support and they were really helpful. No technical manuals on-line. Batteries are $3 at RadioShack, but replacing it means removing the keyboard (9880) or complete disassembly (9260).

The 9260 is really a beauty. The best system designed by Clevo sofar. It is superfast, quiet, very robust and nicely designed. It is big but doesn't look fat.

I cannot stop to praise this powerhouse!

I'll be buying a 5791 as soon as my new 0% APR for 15 months comes in... then I shall return to sR, wielding a mighty computer.

I'm looking at what XoticPC has to offer and this is what I'm thinking of:

Any comments would be welcome. I have an Alienware m7700 that in just under four years has died four times (from video cards OS failures to other unknown issues and now to hard drives). I'd LOVE to get an m17x but I just can't fight that company any more and the support has been, well, less than stellar. What I know this does NOT have: The lighted keyboard and frame lighting; the cache of owning an Alien; the cache of owning an Alien and, most importanlty, the cache of owning an Alien (yes, I'm sad but I think resigned to this!). If you can think of anything else this system doesn't have that the m17x is rumoured to have, please let me know, all advice is welcome!

pat!

Model: Sager 9262 (uses Clevo D900C/D901C motherboard)

Display: 17" WUXGA Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200 native reso)

Color: Arctic Silver

Exterior Finish: Custum Skins and Paint Job (I'm spending a bit here to personalize this thing to take the sting out of not buying an Alien -- if I chicken out, I can save a bit by NOT doing this)

Dead Pixel Policy: Standard 30 day

Processor: Intel Core 2 QUAD Q6700 2.66 GHz w/ 8MB L2 Cache - 1066 MHz FSB (they offered a Dual Core at 2.93 GHz but it was $400 more, only a dual core and only a 4MB cache)

Video Cards: SLI Enabled DUAL PCI-Express nVidia GEForce 8800M GTX (1042 MB Total) w GDDR3 DX10 Video Cards (User Uprgadeable!)

RAM: 4,096 MB DDR2 800 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory

Optical Drive: Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW Drive w/ Software (I don't need a blue ray on my lappy, although its only another $400 to get it).

Primary Hard Drive: 200GB 7200 RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 -- 16 MB Cache)

Secondary Hard Drive: 200GB 7200 RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 -- 16 MB Cache)

Third Hard Drive: 200GB 7200 RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 -- 16 MB Cache)

Raid: Raid 0-Stripe

2.5" SATA Enclosure and Back-Up: USB 2.0 SATA Aluminum Enclosure + 1600 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive (I need to get into the habit of backing up my saves!)

Wireless: Built In Intel PRO-Wireless 4965 802.11 a/g/n

Camera: Built in 2.0 megapixel Camera

TV Tuner: Built in Multi-regional TV Tuner w/ Remote (Express Card MCE Remote and Receiver)

Sound Card: Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi 7.1 Xtreme Audio Notebook Express Card (plus the internal one as standard)

Speakers: Integrated System Speakers

Case: Tripp Lite Corporate To-Load Black Leather Notebook Case

Battery: Smart Li-ion Battery

AC Adapter: Extra Power Brick

Fingerprint Reader: None (only $80, but I worry about it going fudgy)

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32/64 Bit Edition w/ Drivers and Utilities CD (MUST REQUEST DUAL BOOT W/ XP, willing to pay extra for that although our tech folks can do it too for free, so maybe I'll hold off)

Warranty: Sager 3 Year Part and Warranty w/ Lifetime 24/7 Customer Support.

why don't you buy it from PCTorque?

Is it because you want it personalized?

PC Torque, unless I'm completely wrong, doesn't offer all the same options. Plus, in doing some research, XoticPC's customer reviews are through the darn roof...now honestly NO offense at all meant towards PC Torque and I'll go back and respec on their site just to make sure I'm not missing something....

...and yes, to take the sting out of forcing myself to NOT wait for or buy the m17x, i do indeed want a little flash. I'm very depressed about my decision to abandon AW, but I just can't justify what's happened recently to my m7700 in spending 6 grand with them again...and unless I'm totally wrong, the 9262 may just be more powerful than the m17x when all is said and done.

...also XoticPC allows you to order the second video card NOW and user-upgrade. I want to be DONE w/ the purchase, not to have to go back later and buy a second card, etc.

...thanks for the note, I'll respec PC Torque to check out what I might have missed...

pat!

I DID IT! I just purchased the above spec'd system...WOOOOOT!

Well, no more Aliens for pat, which is a bit sad, but this appears to be one mega powerful machine that's future ready, too (which my m7700 wasn't).

later all and thanks for all your input and advice, it's always helpful to talk things through with like minded folks, just to bounce ideas and things off of...

pat!
