3298.88 NZD which converts to about 2500.00 USD,the 2.2 option was the base cpu

lol I don't care if ppl buy them, it's their money they can do as they wish. I just point out that they are paying more money for less performance & more weight

Um,you don't actually know that for sure yet graphically wise......sure,I take 3D benchmarks with a grain of salt too, but, you have options of faster cpu's than the 1710,raid 0....those look like more performance to me.

More weight....yep,its heavy, but I doubt anybody buys a 17" in the first place for mobility and as I'm a fairly big person,I doubt I will have much trouble lifting a 5 or 6kg laptop from one end of the house to the other or to the car.As far as price goes,it only cost me 300.00 more than the 1710 was before it vanished from my local site a few days ago.

For someone who has placed such importance previously on benchmarks,I find your comments now that benchmarks don't mean anything quite ironic and I get this feeling that your e-peen has been feeling a bit threatened lately which is why your acting like a knob about a new laptop LOL

If,like you say,you don't care what people spend their money on....give it a rest,I've been around far longer than you,I don't need you to look out for me,I'm well aware of the facts and unknown facts,if having pissing rights to the best games performance was my aim,I would've bought another desktop eh?and I guess the fact I chose the slowest cpu would indicate that I'm not a person who feels the need to have the fastest everything.

It boils down to.....I never really liked the 9300,9400 or any of the previous XPS's....I like the 1730 and bought it,if it is 10% slower than the 1710 at high res,[which we don't know as fact yet]it doesn't really bother me,I bought it because I like other things about it....and yes, that includes preferring its looks over previous models.

I'm sort of wondering what your trying to achieve yknow, its like your trying to convince everybody the world isn't flat or something but I will be right there to congratulate you when you buy one, whether its next week or when they upgrade the graphics when available.

Thanks for the pics. I love what's underneath the hood on the 1730, but damn if I still think it looks hideous. I can't understand why they can't get the aesthetics a little better in these laptops. This is the first upgrade where I feel like they actually moved backwards in attractiveness.

DM got LOTS more pics today... stay tuned for a full write up from him.

Gerry, please don't get too excited. (Do you need to really call me names?) I don't want you to spend too much time on me. If you've actually bothered to read my posts regarding 3Dmark scores, I 've pointed out on more than several occasions that they are not always a measure of real- world performance, especially considering when it comes to how they perform under 3Dmark, which has not been recoded to truly test the real-world performance of the 8th generation cards. 3DMark scores are good for bragging rights in a synthetic world & testing for severe performance issues, that's about it. As far as e-Peen, my desktop more than satisfies my needs, thank you very much... If you enjoy the new machine, then more power to you. I never said you shouldn't buy it & I find it mildly amusing that you seem to take offense to my personal dislike & OPINION regarding the current offering (and as a personal attack on you) which is well below my expectations. Perhaps when they release it with the option for a higher performance GPU solution I will buy 3 of those. Until then I will point out to people that performance wise IMHO, the 1710 is the better performer & overall deal. ...Now can we get back to the pictures?

Gerry, Sol, am I going to have to seperate you two? This thread is leaning towards THREAD'S CLOSED territory.

Machina, get to writing! We must have MOAR!

I'm sure there's a LOLcat picture out there that's applicable to this situation, I'm just too lazy to get it.
