Thread Starter

I used mine to do it. Since then I went back to Vista on my 1520. It will work though. Just make sure you download all the XP drivers to CD or DVD before you begin the installation. Install all the drivers after installing XP and then do the updates.

You could start by telling us what model you have. If it's a 1501 like the Original poster then you shouldn't have any problem finding a driver that'll work with Windows XP. If it's one of the newer systems that are Vista only, you may have some trouble as it appears that Dell isn't supporting XP on those machines.

I just finally sucked it up on Vista. With all the information, tweaking and some stability issues resolved, I put Vista Premium back on my XPS 410. I used my 1520 as a test bed and have been pretty happy with it. XP has been solid and I'm sure there are reasons to use it, hopefully I won't have to go back. Graphically, Vista is a lot prettier to look at.

Good luck finding your drivers. I was able to get XP Home running very stable on my 1520. Dell was pretty good about updating the availability of XP drivers.

Mine is DELL 1521.
Strange that some devices are not working...

Remember, it is only *legal* to downgrade if you have Business or Ultimate. Neither Home version comes with downgrade rights.
