HP nc6000: 4200 RPM disk vs 5400 RPM disk

Hi guys!

I'm interesting in benchmarks of HP nc6000. Budget versions of the notebook have 4200 RPM hard drives and more expensive ones have 5400 RPM drives. How large an improvement in benchmarks (e.g. 3Dmark'03) does the faster disk give? Does anybody know?

From what I saw, it looks like there a nice speed gain with 5400 rpm HD ... And not only in gaming .. If you search the forums and google, you should be able to find 42000 vs 54000 vs 72000 RPM hd round-up easily...
I should get my NC8000 w/ 5400rpm one next week

Tommi, I have not read anything comparing those two different speed HDs. I would, and did, choose the fastest available just so I woulldn't feel the need to upgrade as soon. I wish HP offered the 7200 rpm Hitachi 7K60. Another $200 or so is a pretty large upgrade for the do-it-yourself type, IMHO.

Nice avatar MaxQC. Kinda looks like what I'm typing on now.

Thanks guys. I'm not searching for a high-end laptop in terms of all components. A low end nc6000 is a nice computer with ATI radeon 9600 (32 mb). Just wanting to make sure that 4200 drive is ok, too.

Another option would be getting a cheaper laptop without Radeon 9600 (e.g. nx7010), but it would be a mistake, right?

It all depends on what you want your notebook to do.

Mostly word processing, internet surfing and email, with the occasional game for medicinal purposes? Centrino + integrated graphics. Intels integrated graphics like in Alienware Sentias and many others are supposed to be more than adequate for this role. Ask Booga in the Sentia forum.

Like more gaming performance and battery life? Centrino + 9600.

All out gaming and don't care about battery life? P4 + 9600/9700.

I like the balance of the nc6000. I'm kinda biased, though.
