iPod Nano - Screen Problems

Sorry if i posted in the wrong forum, but here i go anyways...

This morning when i woke up, i wanted to take my iPod Nano (1st Gen) to school as normal. I found out that when i turned it on the screen was just white, i left it on for a while and it was just white. I turned it over and i found a dent in the metal case just about in the middle.

I plugged my earphones in and hit play, it worked... I recently left it charging for a few hours (about 6), and i dont remember someone punching my pocket or anything violent. I reset it numerous times and nothing happened.

So here is all I know so far:
-Screen doesnt work, only backlight is on
-Dint in back of metal case
-Plays music as if nothing has happened
-Docks and syncs to computer normally
-Warranty is out of date (so dont bother)

The only thing i think might have happened, is whatever caused the dint, may have unplugged the screen ribbon wire.

If anyone knows what the problem might be, or knows any good iPod forum websites itd be a great help...

once an apple product goes, you're pretty much f@@ked. no way to remove the battery, no troubleshooting tips, no nothing. it will be their demise.

Give this a try.
  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

well i'll tell u what i did.

I kinda knew that apple wouldnt care (warranty gone + dint in back) so i ended up pulling it appart - carefully of course...

Followed a couple of vids on youtube and yeah. All the ribbon wires were still in contact (there goes my thoery) and nothing was visably wrong with it - ie. cracks in circuit board or disloged IC chips

Put it back together and now its acting weird (maybe oil from my fingers accidently contacted a few exposed points). And um the computer recognises it every 1 in 2 connection points...

All of use it is to me now is a torch bcoz the backlight still works, a flash drive, or a paperweight lol...

Thnx guys anyways

oh BTW, i am saving up for the iPod Touch so i'll just have to use my SONY mp3 in the meantime...
