M9700 Sound Problem W/Vista Problem. Also Enable SLI M9700 W/Vista!!!

After installing the soundmax drivers for vista that you get from Alienware's website and then restarting after the install, the system boots up as normal and then before going to the desktop it shows a box With a white X in a round red circle saying No ADI drivers is installed anthen after clicking the ok it goes to the desktop. I have sound and all but when I click on the soundmax controll panel it only shows the master sound controll and the mic. In xp it showed all the speackers like front, back, subwoofer, pc beep, ect and also shown an equalizer and all the bells and whistles. Why is it not showing up in vista? If there are better drivers/software out there that actually work, where can I get them.

As a side note, and probably already known by many (i don't know), but I used the M9750 drivers for video and am able to use SLI in full functionality woohoo!!! 3dmark2006 scores from NONSLI to the M9750 difference shows me that it does in fact work! There was a little blib at first were the SLI would kick off automatically but found that if you uninstall the original drivers, restart, use driver sweeper, then restart again, then install the M9750 drivers, then everything works like a charm. people probably gonna slap me and say am wrong but it worked for me. SLI w/Vista on M9700 = in my book!

I have the 256mb cards so didn't expect much from them and vista is a ram hog! but got around 4,800 and something with these drivers. In xp with stock drivers and 3dmark 06 was a little over 5,000 so I know it must be working in sli because it is soo close to what i got in xp but since vista is stealing my ram and some cpu it is hitting marks lower than what I want it to be hitting. I need to find a way to tweek vista more so it isn't taking so much performance. I tried to use 3dmark05 with this and got to the cpu test and it got halfway through but screen went black. wonder if it is 3dmark05 fult because 06 worked fine.

the support disc I have is from when they didn't offer vista, so all the drivers are for xp. I have tried useing xp drivers before and it made matters worse so stuck with vista ones that alienware has posted on thier support area. There are no chipset drivers for vista for the M9700 listed on their site, so I guess I am S.O.L. unless they are able to send me a new support disc for vista. which I highly doupt they would send for free.

try calling them and ask them about the drivers that may be ur best bet and may be they know why ur getting that screen before start up...

errr alienware refuses to give me a suport disk. They say all the drivers are on myhive. BULL $HIT!!! They do not have the chipset drivers nor cpu drivers for vista on myhive or drivers download area. They said that they do not know why I am getting that messege when I install the drivers. This is nutts! Please if there is someone out there that has a support disk for the m9700 running vista, rip the thing and let me download it, please!

I don't get this, all other drivers work fine when I install them except for the sound. If I put xp on, everything runs great, put vista on and I get crappy sound and it don't want to install right. It has got to do with the chipset, but alienware says they don't have chipset drivers for vista.

that was the only thing i knew what to do i dont have vista so i couldnt help you with the support cd..is the chipset drivers the same for vista and XP or are they different...

weird i went under the mobile systems and then clicked on alienware corporation and then under m9700 and there are no chipset drivers for vista which is weird since they have the drivers for the XP and 2000,MCE... id call them again and talk to someone else someone has to have the drivers...

They should have called this model the Area-51 Conspiracy. Everytime I have asked them about it, they said that they had no clue. Then they promise SLI with vista on this machine and then try to blame nvidia for the lack of drivers. It is weird that they would have SLI working in vista on the 9750 and the drivers work for the m9700, why don't they put that on the driver downloads of 9700? I think am going to stick with basic laptops from other places and use desktop as a high end system. when i first recieved this system they forgot to put the SLI cable on the cards (didn't even have it, had to get a new one), didn't have the cable connector for the tv, the media controll buttons (at the top of the keyboard) was disconnected from the main board (couldn't turn it on and had to take it appart to find out), and now this (poor support for vista). Pretty soon I am going to get very irate with them. oh and get this, they were about to upgrade the graphics cards but decided not to so they could have them for thier m9750. what scammers! (that info was from the mouth of a tech support). Then they told me they were dropping the blueray because of "power issues" if we wanted to get that drive instead of a seccond hard drive, then that is our option but they took that away as well. since dell bought them out, they are getting very greedy and support has gone way down on the mobile line. what is the deal of them taking out the lower end laptop for people who just want a laptop? ERRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

sorry for venting, just been a rolling ball of wanting to punch the owners of alienware in the face.

I totally agree and i would love nothing more than to sue all the bastards(http://www.notebookforums.com/thread206453.html), but on a better note...the m9700 Sli drivers for vista are out now.

Just to bump the thread
I have Vista on my m9700 and I also miss all the Soundmax eyecandy from XP.
Chipset, Motherboard drivers Bios etc all updated to newest, but no fancy pancy stuff in the control panel! I also received that weird error after restart when installing the Soundmax drivers...
Hopefully one of us finds a solution quickly

Have you flashed bios 3.18 that can be found in my hive? That is specific for Vista...

Don't see the chipset drivers, but maybe the old ones will work with the new bios...?

Another bump in the ...
Same problem with Vista on a m9700 and no digital output sound.
I contacted alienware support but their answers were pretty lame (you've got a malware try spybot and ad-aware. don't work? try reinstalling windows)
So if there is any good knowledgeable soul out there, I'll be glad to listen.

When I was running Vista I flashed the bios to 3.18 like HH is suggesting, it fix issues with certain drivers not responding properly

I've just flashed the bios to 3.18, but the sound problems remain:
DSndUP error: No ADI codec driver is installed

and soundmax still only shows the minimum option and no Digital audio can be used.
