How far off do you think that is?

I would be surprised if anything happens before 2008, but that's just a guess.

I actually placed an order, only to cancel it once I realized that it was 2 x 256mb cards NOT 2 x 512 mb cards like my Alien. If I wait till October which is NOW lol, but really like in 2-3 weeks I can get the 512 versions of the 8700's for my ALien in SLI. But I'll probably still end up enjoying my 7950 GTX in SLI a whole lot more.

Question Remains.... WILL DX10 be worth it? Many of you people out there keep talking about Crysis and all of this DX 10 stuff, but alot still remains to be seen and I'm already spending money investing into this strange hype.

Waiting here for that.

I'm considering it once I see what they do for the EPP program, DX10 benches, and what configurable options it'll have.

For people like me who dont have a notebook and are looking at a new gaming rig, this m1730 doesnt seem like to bad of a choice. Plus with the guaranteed 150W video card upgrade... Heck count me in.... the 1730 doesnt do to bad in 3dmark... Of course thats different than gaming, but its a start for a comparison.

As I need a new notebook, as soon as I can get ahold of a coupon or dell has a special, im ordering one. Never ever pay full price, a sale will roll around soon

Nah I'm doing fine with my Inspiron 9400

IMO the 1730 is to heavy to take with me to school, and I don't really like the design.

I'd only get it if it wasn't like, 2 inches thick

where are people finding that dell is offering a upgrade to the video card when available???
I remember Dell had same offer upgrade w/ gen 1 XPS. It's not like the upgrade is free though. Gen1 GPU upgrade was about 400 bucks after taxes.

On the Direct2Dell site.... Louis Bruno of Dell does a video interview about the m1730.. He states that Dell Promises a video upgrade upto a 150 watt unit, which is 30 watts more than the current SLI 8700...

http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archi...gory/1008.aspx

Progneta

Plus if you read the notebook reviews about the 1730, most of the sites are stating that in the future, with video card upgrade, the m1730 will rule.... With upto a 150 Watt graphic solution in the 1730... sure to be pleasing

I ordered one. Going from an Alienware Area-51m (766) that turns off whenever it feels like it, overheats when it's not randomly turning off, sounds like a mini vacuum cleaner, and can no longer handle even moderately-taxing programs/games/whatever, an XPS M1730 looks good. No, it looks great.

Yes the XPX Gen 1 had a upgrade from 9700 to MR9800 ATI video card....True it was like $400.00 and was covered under the original warranty and included a tech to come to your home and replace the card but many choose to replace it themselves all you had to do is tell Dell you were expeirenced enough and they would let you replace it yourself. I myself had the XPS Gen 1 and made the upgrade and to be compleatly honest if I were to order a 1730 I would wait if possiable to see the exact upgrade it will have and furthermore it is always cheaper configuireing a GPU upgrade when placeing a order for a new laptop then upgradeing it down the road. Another reason is just like what Dell done with the XPS Gen 2 it came with the 6800 Ultra then nVidia built the 7800 GTX for Dell for months you could not purchase the 7800 GTX but Dell changed the name from the XPS Gen 2 to M170 and the upgrade was available for months when configuireing a new laptop but Dell did not release the 7800 GTX to spare parts so XPS Gen 2 owners could upgrade for months until they were good and ready and made a bunch of M170 sales.......Which was a crappy thing to do to XPS Gen 2 owners like myself makeing us wait until they were darn good and ready to let us loyal Dell consumers have the upgrade.

I think it's easier to find the game you like, and want to play. And base your computer/laptop needs off of that. It places things into better perspective, especially for the people out there who just do 3d mark scores all day and don't even spend a min. let alone an hour playing a game making use of the hardcore toys they've bought. It's alot like owning a race car and never using it to race and just running Dyno tests all day.

But that's just my opinion. So what I'm saying is until I find a need for DX 10 and that physics Card i won't be spending a dime on this stuff.

well I put my desktop & mobile rigs to the test playing games like lode runner, pac-man, Doom, and duke nukem' 3D. I always get at least 1,500FPS
